The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a full-time Director of Administration, Records and Litigation Support in the Bureau of Legal Affairs. Reporting directly to the Deputy Commissioner of Legal Affairs, the position will be responsible for developing and implementing an efficient records management system across the following units: Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) Unit, Public Records, Records Management, Court Desk, and Enforcement. The successful candidate will have a wealth of first chair litigation experience with a focus on seeking and providing discovery; evaluating discovery requests and providing appropriate responses; be intimately familiar with receiving, evaluating and responding to FOIL requests; records retention and management; appropriately responding to court ordered and/or attorney subpoenas; compliance with records management and retention laws, rules or regulations. The successful candidate will have an exacting eye for detail and organization and will be responsible for accurately tracking and updating all requests for records, witnesses and other similar Department resources, whether the requests are submitted through FOIL, public inquiries, internal stakeholders, or litigation. The position will also be primarily responsible for overseeing all administrative support for the General Law Unit within the Bureau of Legal Affairs, whose attorneys act as the primary points of contact with Assistant Corporation Counsels at the New York City Law Department. The position will also oversee the Request for Legal Assistance process dictated by General Municipal Law 50-e.
Minimum Qual Requirements
Admission to the New York State Bar; and four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar, eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work.
Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
