Job Description

As the Director of Marine Assurance at Foss Maritime, you will play a pivotal role in implementing and maintaining our safety and quality management systems and lead safety compliance across all Foss Maritime. Your expertise will be critical in driving operational excellence and encouraging a premier safety culture. You will lead a team, serve as the Designated Person Ashore, and collaborate with various partners to provide guidance to our executive and operations staff. Responsibilities:

  • Develop, coordinate, and communicate, the Foss Safety operational vision, goals, and objectives.
  • Provides operational support and mentorship to safety and quality management users to ensure successful system implementation operational risk reduction.
  • Ensure that the Marine Assurance Group team members approach the execution of their responsibilities through coaching, educating, and fostering relationships.
  • Develops, monitors, adjusts, and where needed actively supports implementation of safety and quality management system policies and procedures.
  • Guides operational improvement through assuring compliance with SIRE/ OVID vetting and TMSA process.
  • Represents Foss Maritime at community functions, industry forums, such as AWO and OCIMF Working groups as appropriate.
  • Monitors regulatory and rule changes that affect the company vessel(s) or implementation of the safety management system.
  • Provides guidance on regulatory changes affecting marine personnel and operations.
  • Responsible for all company audit functions including third-party and Classification Society audits.
  • Leads the Marine Assurance Group Team in Foss audits.
  • Responsible the Foss Marine Assurance Group’s Department Budget
  • Performs special duties and other projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Hold a minimum USCG 1600 GT Ocean Master License with Master of Towing Vessels Endorsement.
  • Possess a maritime academy education or university degree, showcasing your dedication to the field.
  • Fifteen (15) years of supervisory shore side combined with seagoing experience, as a tug master is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of International Safety Management (ISM), basic accounting principles, and budgeting.
  • Familiarity with marine investigation and root cause analysis techniques, as well as project management principles.
  • Ability to serve as the Designated Person Ashore, Qualified Individual (QI), and Incident Commander.
  • Capability to handle pressure while maintaining high ethical standards of honesty and integrity.

Benefits

The base compensation for this position will be between$152,626 and $190,783 annually.

This position may eligible for an Incentive Compensation Plan bonus of up to 30% of base pay, subject to Company and individual performance and per company policy. Individuals hired/transferred during the year will be eligible to receive a pro rata share after six (6) months of service in the event that a bonus is paid out.

This position will accrue 20 days of vacation a year. Accrued vacation will be vested and available for use after successfully completing six (6) months of service.
