Director
The Missouri State Fair Director coordinates and directs the annual Missouri State Fair as well as the continuous utilization and care of the Missouri State Fairgrounds located in Sedalia, Missouri.
Salary: $90,000-$110,000 Annually (plus full State Benefit Package)
Location: Sedalia, MO
What you’ll be doing:
- Act in conjunction with the Commission and be responsible for all operational or policy matters as established by the Commission, Missouri Statutes or state policy;
- Implement and enforce all Fair policies and procedures as adopted by the Commission;
- Direct, oversee and be aware of all areas of the Fair’s financial policy, and be responsible for all receipts, disbursements, money handled and accounts payable and receivable;
- Ensure compliance with all general revenue and fee fund requirements as set forth by state statute;
- Develops and oversees capital improvements planning and budgeting, providing recommendations to the Commission;
- Implement capital improvements as prioritized and approved by the Commission and assume responsibility for financing, implementation and supervision of capital improvement projects to their completion;
- Appear before the State Legislature to present the Fair’s budget and recommend changes in existing statutory authority; establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with other divisions within the department and with other governmental agencies;
- Personally or through others makes presentations to promote the Missouri State Fair and present a favorable and positive image of the Fair. Prepares reports for the Commission and submits them to the Commission or Commission Chairman as requested;
- Fields complaints and problems relevant to the fair and non-fair activities, Acts as the official spokesperson for the Commission in times of natural disaster or other disasters occurring in conjunction to the fair;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, government officials, commodity groups, livestock organizations, members of the media and the general public;
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of business or public administration, office management and methods and procedures of program planning, implementation and analysis;
- Knowledge of the functions, needs, policies and procedures as related to the operations of a state or local fair, amusement or theme park, convention or multi-purpose center, or similar activity;
- Knowledge of the legislative process of the State of Missouri;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in problem analysis and decision making
- Ability to prepare detailed financial budgets, prepare financial analyses and prepare long term financial projects
- Experience in monitoring and managing major constructions projects
- Background in agriculture with an emphasis in livestock experience
- Significant successful management experience with an event or project comparable to the Missouri State Fair may be considered in lieu of any of the above
