Director, Audience Growth & Monetization
The Dow Jones Marketing team is seeking a Director of Audience Growth and Monetization who will play a crucial role in developing and optimizing audience strategies for our consumer brands, including The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, and MarketWatch. In this role, you will focus on identifying new audience opportunities, as well as tying efforts across the organization back to the goals of high quality organic traffic and digital subscription growth. You will partner closely with the Product team and Dow Jones newsrooms on SEO, content partnerships, and setting goals for the audience mission. You will also look after the monetization of our audiences, with consideration for paywall strategy, funnel optimization, experimentation, and collaboration with advertising.
Responsibilities:
- Audience Growth Strategies: Lead the development and execution of comprehensive audience growth strategies aimed at driving organic audience growth and engagement for Dow Jones’ consumer brands.
- Paywall Optimization: Work closely with the Product team to implement and optimize paywall strategies that effectively balance audience access and revenue generation.
- Funnel Optimization: Analyze the user journey and identify opportunities to optimize the audience funnel, improving conversion rates and maximizing engagement.
- Develop Test & Learn Program for Audience: Drive a culture of experimentation and data-driven decision-making, testing different approaches to audience growth and monetization.
- Partnership Optimization: Work closely with the Partnerships team to identify opportunity to reach new, high quality audiences.
- SEO Insights: Utilize SEO tools and analytics platforms to monitor website performance, track key metrics, and provide valuable insights to inform audience growth and monetization strategies. Partner with the product SEO lead to identify business priorities for technical SEO.
- Stay Updated with Industry Trends: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, algorithm updates, and emerging best practices to keep Dow Jones at the forefront of audience growth and monetization practices.
- Editorial Alignment: Work closely with the newsroom to align strategies with editorial initiatives, ensuring content-driven organic growth. Partner on investment requests with product and newsroom around audience growth.
- Team Management: Manage and mentor a team, fostering their professional growth and promoting a culture of excellence.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in audience development, digital marketing, or related roles within the media industry.
- Proven track record of leading teams and driving change within an organization.
- Strong expertise in audience funnel optimization, paywall strategies, and experimentation.
- Proficiency in SEO tools and analytics platforms such as Google Search Console, SEMrush, or similar.
- Experience with website analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, to monitor and analyze website performance.
- Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and website structure for effective implementation of audience growth and monetization strategies.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
- Prior experience in the media industry or a high growth B2C business.
