Director of Building and Grounds

Valle Verde in Santa Barbara, CA, a HumanGood community named among the “Best Nursing Homes of 2023-2024” by U.S News & World Report, is hiring a Director of Building and Grounds (aka, Facilities Director).

** Full Time, Mon. – Fri. **$82,000 to $123,000/yr. Depending on Experience ** Eligible for Performance Based Bonus

As a member of Valle Verde’s leadership team, the Director of Building and Grounds (“DBG”) performs administrative and supervisory oversight, directing the maintenance, security, grounds, transportation, housekeeping, laundry, and capital projects of the community in order to ensure efficient plant operation and management.This position is the key leader regarding disaster planning and emergency planning and control.

Other Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains high standard in quality customer service and positive relations with residents, other departments and vendors through resident satisfaction surveys and one on one communications;
  • Supervises lead staff providing instruction, coaching, recruitment, selection, allocation of team members scheduling, reviewing and planning work, maintaining standards, and evaluating performance;
  • Supervises outside contractors, and coordinates with remodel contractor and Marketing Department all new remodel projects;
  • Manages capital and operational construction projects including planning, bid proposal process, ensuring quality of work performed and adherence to established project specifications, coordination of contracted services and monitoring of budgets in coordination with corporate representative;
  • Responsible for ensuring supplies management including; materials, equipment, tools, parts, and permits;
  • Oversees organization and training of community resident/staff emergency response team and facilitates at least twice annual drills;
  • Maintain Community standards consistent with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 99 Health Care Facilities Code and NFPA 101 Life Safety Code
  • Monitors and assures compliance with all standards for safety, risk management, and infection control as required by enforcement agencies and take required action as needed.

To be successful in the role you would have:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 6 years of experience in maintenance trade fields or environmental services (housekeeping/laundry) or combination of the two with supervisory experience.
  • Current/prior experience within a healthcare facility highly desired (e.g., retirement community, nursing home or hospital) at a Director level or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • Some vocational education (“VoTech”) in business, Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical or Carpentry trades preferred.
  • B.A. or B.S degree in a related field a plus.
  • Familiarity with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 99 Health Care Facilities Code and NFPA 101 Life Safety Code a plus.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
