Director of Business Operations (Community Health)

MHC Healthcare is seeking a Director of Business Operations to join the Business Operations team at the Marana Main Health Center, located in the heart of Marana, AZ. The Director of Business Operations directs, develops, and implements effective business operation strategies to develop and sustain optimal operational performance in support of the needs and strategic direction of the organization. MHC Healthcare is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC), with 17 sites in Tucson and Pima County. Our mission is to improve our Community by providing exceptional, whole-person healthcare.

The following qualifications are required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Health Services Administration, or related field
  • 5 years’ relevant senior level operations management experience in the healthcare field, including supervision of management-level staff
  • Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • Current Arizona driver’s license with clean driving record and proof of current vehicle insurance (39-month MVR will be ran by MHC)

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Health Services Administration, or a related field
  • Experience in business administration, management, or strategic planning
  • Experience in a healthcare setting
  • Experience with Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC)

Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered if applicable and must be directly related to the functions and body of knowledge required to successfully perform the job.

This position has the following supervisory responsibility:

  • Manages and monitors work performance of a division or department through direct reports and their teams, including evaluating work objectives and effectiveness, establishing broad organizational goals, and provisioning work and staffing assignments for the department.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of operational requirements of a healthcare organization, including best practices for the coordination of integrated care.
  • Strong business acumen with ability to successfully develop, implement, and evaluate strategic plans and make competent, informed decisions.
  • Ability to perform and manage a wide variety of assignments requiring independent judgment.
  • Strong knowledge of process improvement best practices.
  • Expertise in budget preparation with ability to meet operational budget requirements.
  • Proficient knowledge of process improvement (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean).
  • Ability to meet and communicate effectively with clients, associates, executive leadership, board of directors, and the public.
  • Excellent presentation and facilitator skills with ability to integrate existing and new technologies to enhance presentations and learning materials.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills with ability to manage competing demands and adapt to frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Excellent understanding of computers and ability to produce meaningful metrics, reports, and tools to aid department staff and trainees.
  • Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with key internal and external leaders, partners, and customers.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to select and apply appropriate principles, training methods, and learning techniques to promote quality outcomes in training and change management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs the organization’s daily operations to ensure achievement of the organization’s goals and strategic objectives.
  • Collaborates with other leaders to develop and maintain effective operational strategies that support effective services and workflows.
  • Assesses the organization’s needs and develops strategies to achieve growth and mission-critical operational goals.
  • Develops, plans, and establishes goals for the Operations Department and evaluates programs impacting patients in all patient care facilities.
  • Provides leadership to subordinate staff on the budget process and ensures compliance with financial goals and mandates.
  • Reviews and approves plans for the control of planned outputs, budget spending, labor and material efficiency, customer service, and order entry efficiency.
  • Executes operating plans and tactics to attain short- and long-term financial goals.
  • Evaluates operating plans and standards, provides input on interpretation of results, and suggests changes for plan and process improvements.
  • Prepares and presents operational performance reports to the Chief Operations Officer (COO).
  • Presents matters requiring executive decision with recommendations for solution to the COO.
  • Ensures programs and facilities are compliant with all Arizona Department of Health Services licensing regulations, requirements, and standards.
  • Develops, implements, and revises operational and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Reviews Operations Department finances, cost estimates, manpower, and operational requirements for all patient care facilities.
  • Works with Operations Department employees on organizational plans, assesses progress, and adjusts plans and strategies as needed.
  • Coordinates activities of assigned department staff working within other departments and collaborates effectively to address issues with mutually acceptable resolutions.
  • Participates in the preparation of grant applications for the organization.
  • Ensures efficient processes are in place for selection and maintenance of appropriate, qualified personnel in all subordinate positions.
  • Identifies training requirements, plans and implements staff development activities, and takes appropriate personnel action as required.
  • Develops an excellent working relationship with all departments to further operational goals and objectives.
  • Maintains and fosters appropriate communication with both internal and external agencies.
  • Enriches professional knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional associations.
