About the Director of Community Media Role
BRIC seeks a Director of Community Media to further actualize the BRIC mission, vision and strategic plan through programmatic departments at BRIC including: Brooklyn Free Speech Community Producer Services and Community Producer Services. The Director of Community Media will also play a key role in managing the relationships with the cable companies and exploring revenue opportunities.
What You’ll Do in the Role:
The Director of Community Media will be responsible for the following in addition to any other project as assigned by their manager, the Chief Program Officer:
- Work closely with BRIC’s CPO to oversee implementation of Community Media strategic initiatives and determination of operational priorities, coordinate initiatives among Community Media staff.
- Directly manage six (6) direct reports, effectively supporting and motivating teams throughout creative and technical workflows.
- Foster Community with Community Producers and work in partnership with Adult Education and other programs to create pathways for opportunities.
- Oversee public equipment department and increase traffic of equipment loans and rentals
- Oversee preparation of operating and capital budgets for Community Media, approve expenditures and monitor budget-to-actual. While developing plans to increase revenue base.
- Serve as a member of BRIC’s Senior Management team; assist in planning organization-wide initiatives and policies; participate in reporting to the Board of Directors.
- In 2023, Proactively seek partnerships to further community media engagement strategies and respond to organizational inquiries for partnerships with BRIC; represent BRIC at select community meetings and neighborhood events. In the next 3 years, work to ensure this merges as an One BRIC department with Community Engagement.
- Participate in identifying and cultivating current and potential funders and sponsors.
- Work collaboratively with other BRIC program areas on cross-disciplinary programming initiatives.

- Experience & Qualifications:
- 3-4 years experience in a senior leadership position at a community media outlet, organization or nonprofit centered on or working with community media.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Exceptional motivational and staff leadership abilities.
- Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills.
- A strong connection and passion for the community and spirit of Brooklyn.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.

Other Things to Know:
- Compensation: The annual salary range for this position is $85 – $110K.
- Status and location: This is a full-time, exempt role based in our Brooklyn office.
