Director of Continuity and Crisis Management

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Security, the Director of Continuity and Crisis Management is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive continuity and crisis management programs to minimize the impact of disruptions to business operations, ensure the safety of employees, and protect the organization’s assets. The ideal candidate is tasked with providing leadership in the maturation of the continuity and crisis management program, including: leading program management and framework at the enterprise level, development and administration of program-specific tools and platforms, resources/training and event response exercise development and facilitation. This position will take the lead in coordinating live event threat monitoring, business disruption response, event/exercise response and recovery coordination activities such as urgent communication tool administration, messaging protocols, and enterprise-wide collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive continuity and crisis management program that identifies potential risks and outlines response protocols
  • Partner with business units to assess their continuity and crisis management needs and provide guidance on risk management strategies
  • Develop and conduct training and awareness programs for employees and stakeholders to ensure they understand their roles and responsibilities in continuity and crisis management
  • Provides governance and oversight of the continuity and crisis management program, including tools and resources and executes program management strategies, plans and playbooks, ensuring alignment to regulatory requirements and industry standards Manages, monitors, and drives response and recovery planning activities at the regional and national levels with limited supervision and oversight
  • Work with external partners, such as emergency services, government agencies and insurance providers, to ensure appropriate support is available during a crisis event
  • Lead incident response teams to manage crisis situations effectively and efficiently, including coordinating communication efforts, directing response actions, and providing regular updates to senior management
  • Establish and maintain crisis management procedures, regional and site-specific playbooks, including emergency communication plans and business continuity plans
  • Continually assess and update the organization’s continuity and crisis management plans to ensure they remain effective and relevant with regular updates to senior leadership
  • Act as the primary point of contact for multi-disciplinary teams during significant disruption, continuity and crisis management related issues within the organization
  • Develops and delivers comprehensive incident management training to ensure preparedness including training and development and presentations to business partners and senior leadership
  • Facilitates live event Lesson Learned/Postmortem assessments with front line teams, key partners, and stakeholders to surface gaps and risks, analyze and identity root cause for remediation and improvements to processes, procedures, plans and playbooks
  • As a people manager, will provide direction, coaching and professional development for direct reports

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Emergency Management, or related field
  • Minimum of ten years of work-related experience, including five years of business continuity and crisis management related roles and supervisory experience, preferably in the telecommunications or technology industry
  • Strong understanding of risk management, incident response, business continuity, and crisis management principles
  • Familiarity with using, administering, and training others on continuity and crisis planning and incident management tools (preferably AlertMedia, DataMinr, Agility Recovery or similar tools
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams during crisis situations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm and decisive in high-pressure situations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Relevant certification such as Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Crisis Management Certified Specialist (CMCS), ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) is desirable.

The Director of Continuity and Crisis Management must be able to work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization and maintain a strong focus on ensuring the safety of employees and protecting the organization’s assets during times of crisis.
