Director of Art Curation

At Indiewalls we work on the boldest commercial art projects in the country and we focus on bringing independent artists to those spaces. We are looking for a highly creative, organized, and hard-working individual to join our Curatorial team. Our clients include boutique hotels, large-scale office spaces, high-end residential designers, and big brands. As a Curator, you will be responsible for helping them conceptualize, discover, purchase, and commission contemporary artwork from independent artists. This position is a perfect fit for a creative with experience in curating for commercial and public spaces, creative direction, team management, profitability and logistics.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the direct manager and leader of the Curatorial Team
  • Ensure Curatorial Team members are meeting deadlines and deliverables.
  • Provide oversight, direction and delegation to team members.
  • Assess and review projects brought in by Sales Team and assign to relevant Curatorial team members.
  • Troubleshoot Curatorial issues, including artists negotiations, client presentations, legal, and design.
  • Develop and institute protocols for effective internal and external communication and processes.
  • Review high level creative (as needed).
  • Strategize with Senior Leadership Team Members on feasibility, efficiency and profitably of all projects.
  • Conduct Site visits and client meetings as needed for projects. Domestic travel as needed (a few times a year, depending on candidates location).
  • Recruit, hire, train and review all Curatorial Team staff members, as well as appropriate consultants for graphic design, architectural work, research and and renderings.

Requirements

  • 7+ years experience in art consulting/curating and/or operations; and/or interior design operations.
  • The confidence to make definitive curatorial decisions by leading the client to the right decision
  • Focus on whats important to get more done in less time.
  • Excellent eye for art and design
  • Stellar communication skills – both written/email, phone, and in-person.
  • Ability to efficiently manage a team
  • A knack for creative problem solving and proactive initiatives.
  • Understanding of floorplans and construction documents is a big plus.
  • Graphic Design experience is a big plus but not a must.
  • Must live in the United States
