Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for an experienced, highly motivated, creative attorney to serve as Director of the Attorney General’s Gun Violence Prevention Unit (GVPU), which is embedded in the AG’s Government Bureau. This new and innovative unit is committed to civilly enforcing the Commonwealth gun and consumer protections laws and regulations, advising on policy change, and supporting law enforcement and community-based gun violence prevention groups in addressing gun violence across Massachusetts.

Primary Duties : The Director will be responsible for building and leading GVPU, which will include developing and executing on a plan to: (1) i dentify and pursue investigations and appropriate enforcement actions aimed at ensuring compliance with the Commonwealth’s consumer protection and gun laws; (2) develop a robust technical assistance program for law enforcement officers on compliance with the Commonwealth’s gun laws; (3) c oordinate gun enforcement, litigation, and gun-related policy work across the office; (4) w ork collaboratively with other state Attorneys General on gun enforcement, Second Amendment defensive litigation, and appropriate federal advocacy; and (5) d evelop and manage a community engagement program to make recommendations on gun violence prevention measures.

Position Type : Full-Time/Exempt

Salary : $105,000 to $120,000, dependent on JD year and experience.

Qualifications:
Position Requirements : We are seeking a creative, self-motivated individual who has demonstrated success in a leadership position and is results-oriented, mission-driven, and committed to addressing the gun violence epidemic in the Commonwealth through a variety of different legal, policy, and community engagement tools. Must be a member of or pending admission to the Massachusetts bar. Applicants must have at least eight years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, legal experience, preferably with some expertise with gun issues. Litigation, enforcement, and policy experience, as well as experience working for and growing a small entrepreneurial entity, is preferred. Experience working with diverse stakeholders across state and local government, including law enforcement agencies and community and advocacy organizations is also preferred. In addition, candidates must have strong legal and non-legal research and writing skills; strong oral communication and advocacy skills adaptable for many audiences; and strong organizational, interpersonal, and influencing skills. The ideal candidate will also have experience creating a supportive work environment with opportunities for meaningful feedback and growth. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve, including historically marginalized communities, and an interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment.
