Director of Human Resources| McCormick Place Convention Center

Overview

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for overseeing all functional areas dealing with federal and state regulatory compliance, Collective Bargaining Agreement compliance, employee recruitment and selection, employee retention and development, policy and procedure implementation and interpretation, training, local benefits administration, risk management, safety, and employee relations at McCormick Center. Additionally, the Director of HR will provide support, and serve as a strategic resource, to the operations management team. This site-specific position will work closely with the Vice President of Hospitality.

This role requires labor union/CBA experience in order to support a positive relationship with the unions at McCormick Place.

This role will pay a salary of $100,000 to $135,000.

Responsibilities
• Ensure federal, state and local regulatory compliance, including wage and hour regulations, CBA compliance, FMLA, HIPPA, FLSA, I-9 tracking, risk management, etc. in conjunction with corporate HR department.
• Maintain personnel and other files (medical, I-9, investigatory, benefits, etc.) in an accurate, complete, organized, and legal manner. Ensure complete confidentiality and security of personal employee information, including background screen info, medical info, etc.
• Responsible for driving the recruitment process including working with operations managers to establish staffing levels, developing recruitment sources, holding job fairs, handling postings. Oversee and assist with screening, interviewing, selection, onboarding-orientation, training and retention process.
• Ensure primary focus of all employment actions is on meeting the objectives of the MPEA, OVG Hospitality and in compliance with multiple Labor Unions engaged at McCormick Place.
• Will work closely with OVG 360 HR staff to provide appropriate support and HR guidance to operations managers on all employment and workplace-related matters.
• Respond to unemployment claims, requests for employment verification and other requests in a timely, accurate and professional manner, while adhering to highest standards of confidentiality.
• Establish and maintain designated OVG Hospitality programs for employee recognition and rewards, development, and in accordance with CBA.
• Support managers with all employee relations issues including performance evaluation, disciplinary action, conflict resolution, investigations, and succession planning.
• Be thoroughly familiar with company and CBA policies and procedures/work rules and assist in the implementation and interpretation of these policies, procedures and practices.
• Responsibility for overseeing risk management and safety programs and requirements: submit incident /claim reporting forms to carrier, handle claims management, drive safety committee, and implement modified duty/return to work plans.
• Attain and maintain positive, professional and proactive business relationship with our client, client HR personnel, Unite HERE 1 Shop Stewards, and all related key entities of the venue.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelors Degree in HR, Business, Psychology, Labor Relations-or related field.
  • Minimum 7+ years verifiable HR Manager or Director level experience with increasing responsibility
  • 5+ years of Labor Union experience
  • Microsoft Office Suite experience
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills (required for supporting employee training)
  • Ability to build strong and effective work relationships.
  • Ability to develop an in-depth understanding of our business/industry
  • Ability to adhere to highest standards of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Solid organizational skills.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills (formal counseling and conflict resolution training helpful).
  • Thorough working knowledge of general HR body of knowledge.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks; project management skills.
  • Business and financial acumen.
  • Ability to work venue/event-driven schedules (including evenings, weekends and long hours) when needed.
  • SHRM-CP, PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
