The Director of Intergovernmental & Legislative Affairs supports the mission of the Comptroller’s office by acting as the principal liaison between the Comptroller’s office and federal, state and local elected official offices, as well as mayoral agencies. This position reports to the Deputy Comptroller for Public Affairs, and is part of the Public Affairs Bureau’s leadership team tasked with supporting policy and legislative efforts to promote the financial health, integrity, and effectiveness of New York City government, secure a thriving future for all New Yorkers, and build a more just, equitable, and resilient City.
Specific duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Build, preserve & strengthen relationships with elected officials and relevant staff on the Comptroller’s behalf, including being attuned to opportunities to support legislative and policy efforts;
• Coordinate with elected officials & appropriate staff within various legislative bodies and City/State agencies to advance the Comptroller’s strategic objectives;
• Research, analyze, and track legislation, laws, hearings and/or policies that relate to the Comptroller’s priorities and/or impact the Comptroller’s Office operations;
• Develop and implement the Comptroller’s Office annual City & State legislative and policy agenda in collaboration with various internal stakeholders;
• Assist in the logistical coordination & preparation for legislative hearings and other public events;
• Prepare briefings and staff events attended by Comptroller as assigned; and,
• Performing other related duties, assignments and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qual Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and at least five (5) or more years of relevant experience, preferably in NYC or NYS government and/or politics performing functions similar to those listed in the bulleted list of job description above; or,
2. A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience mentioned above.

• Experience working closely with New York City & State elected officials;
• Excellent attention to detail and highly organized individual;
• Ability and enthusiasm to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders;
• Strong commitment to racial and economic justice, public service, and a team culture that values collaboration and feedback;
• Some experience working on legislative or public policy campaigns;
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
