Salary Information:

This role starts at a base salary of $53,222.00

About the Job:

As the Director of Juvenile Detention Alternative Programs, you will be the lead position responsible for the liaison duties and oversight of the statewide juvenile grants for Juvenile Community Corrections Programs (JCC) and the Indiana Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI). The purpose of the Indiana juvenile justice system is to administer approrpriate levels of supervision and accountability for system-involved youth, and promote healthy and successful adolescent development, while maintaining public safety. You will report directly to the Director of Reentry and External Relations.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in appropriate field(s) (e.g. juvenile justice, child welfare, social work, youth-serving, and/or conducting research).
  • Knowledge and skills to develop policy and procedures.
  • Knowledge and skills to develop program goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative.
  • Ability to interpret information and write formal reports.
  • Knowledge of the juvenile justice system research, evidence-based practices, and related community services.
  • Ability to think critically, analytically, and independently.
  • Experience managing grant contracts
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with stakeholders across the State of Indiana

What You’ll Need for Success:

  • Establish program goals, priorities, and methodology.
  • Broad knowledge of an entire program area.
  • Extensive knowledge of all source materials and references including federal and state laws governing the programs.
  • Working knowledge of the organization of the agency and of state and federal agencies dealing with the programs.
  • Working knowledge of accounting and budget principles.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, interpret and correlate technical material and make recommendations on implementation in current programs.
  • Ability to develop and implement new principles and policies and discern potential implications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with federal and state agencies.

Difficulty of Work:

The work is broad in scope involving many complex program elements which require critical and administrative analytical abilities. Work assignments involve the development of new programs and procedures and an assessment and recommendation on whether to implement those already established. Guidelines are established, but require broad interpretation and judgment in application and implementation.
