Currently, we are recruiting for a Director of Marketing and Communications to join our team. The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for the oversight and planning of all the Museum’s marketing efforts and external communications. This position leads the Marketing team, implementing creative marketing solutions through both traditional media and digital marketing efforts to increase awareness of the Museums’ exhibitions, programs, and institutional brand. This position will analyze marketing performance based on data and optimize marketing initiatives to achieve attendance and revenue goals.
The Director of Marketing and Communications regularly engages with staff, vendors, visitors, volunteers, members, and colleagues in a personable and respectful manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for creating, implementing, and measuring the success of a strategic institutional marketing and communications programs that enhances the Museums’ image and position within the cultural sector and raises awareness of the Museums among the general public.
- Generates ongoing media interest in the Museum, maintains close relationships with target media and manages high level response media requests.
- Responsible for creative development, implementation, and evaluation of marketing/communications and branding efforts for the Museum to ensure all messages work to build positive relationships with a broad and diverse public.
- Oversees master advertising calendar, production timelines and deliverables; supervises the routing of materials internally and externally to ensure timely distribution of materials.
- In collaboration with communications colleagues, develop and assess proactive communications strategies aimed at enhancing the museum’s brand and elevating its reputation on a local, national, and global scale.
- Monitors content on all applicable sites and apps to ensure it remains accurate, current, compliant, and reflective of the brand.
- Oversees the museum’s signage, production of in-house marketing campaigns, and collateral development for departments across the
- Partners with media planning consultants and/or agencies to deliver out-of-the-box campaigns.
- Researches and develops strategic partnerships aimed at bringing in new audiences to the museum and elevating the institutional brand; drives ongoing assessment and analysis of external partnerships.
- Conducts relevant market research on a consistent basis and monitors trends among cultural institutions and in key markets.
- Oversees and manages department budget.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies.
- Act as a trusted advisor and coach to staff, helping to build empathy and cultural competence with the goal of improving management of a diverse workforce.
- Establishes and nurtures strong working relationships with museum staff, colleagues from other institutions, consultants, and vendors.
- Performs other duties and projects as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Arts degree, plus seven (7) years of progressively responsible marketing experience with three (3) years of supervisory experience. Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Expertise in traditional and partnership marketing required.
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of how to accomplish marketing without having access to a corporate marketing budget.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to write interpretive and promotional museum materials (gallery handouts, newsletters, brochures, exhibition text panels, teachers’ guides, etc.)
- Ability to plan, coordinate, host, facilitate programs as well as manage program budget, travel, mailings, meeting facilitation etc.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe PowerPoint.
- Proficiency with digital technology, new and emerging media, and current social media, mobile devices, and other relevant media.
- Proven track record of initiating change and innovation. Bringing great ideas to fruition through the alignment of ideas, people and processes using self-directed work teams.
- Ability to supervise, direct, motivate, and evaluate staff and volunteers.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, positive working relationships with staff, volunteers, and members of the public; promote membership activities to ethnically and culturally diverse groups and communities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; adhere to deadlines; demonstrate flexibility in meeting shifting demands and priorities.

COMPENSATION
The Asian Art Museum is committed to practicing salary transparency. The minimum salary for this position is $140,000 and the maximum salary is $180,000. Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity. This opportunity includes a generous benefits package, including but not limited to:
