Position Overview

KIPP DC seeks a self-motivated Director of Out of School Enrichment for the KIPP DC Enrichment Team. The Enrichment Team is responsible for creating new partnerships and cultivating existing relationships to build and improve program offerings to KIPP DC students and their families on and off-campuses, year-round. The Director of Out of School Enrichment is an external-facing role that also requires internal collaboration across work streams to design, implement, and evaluate programs and services that will generate the highest-quality learning experiences for students and the broader community.

The Director of Out of School Enrichment is an exempt position and will report to the Managing Director of Extended Learning and Enrichment.

Key Responsibilities:

Cultivate and foster existing and new relationships 30%

  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships to ensure schools have diverse programs and services to meet the needs of KIPP DC students and their families.
  • Manages the proposal, contract, and selection of out-of-school-time processes for all 21 schools.
  • Collaborates closely with each school leader to identify school programming needs and in turn secures strategic partnerships. Design, implement and evaluate each program throughout the year.

Lead planning and implementation of before and aftercare programs 30%

  • Collaborate with school leaders and network leaders to plan for on-campus and off-campus options for KIPP DC students for before and aftercare needs.
  • Ensure programs meet all licensing, contractual, and quality management standards and requirements from OSSE through having or developing a deep knowledge of regulations around before and aftercare, including staffing ratios and other requirements.
  • Collaborates with legal and compliance teams as necessary. Mediate disputes between partners and families or school community members.

Direct and manage summer camp programs 30%

  • Identify timely summer needs of students and their families and engage external partners to provide complementing summer opportunities on- and off-campuses.
  • The director is responsible for overseeing all components of the camps’ operation.
  • Direct and maintain multiple camp programs, day-to-day operations, policies, and procedures to support and monitor existing summer camp partnerships to ensure fruitful relationships that facilitate high-quality and safe camp environments for students and staff. Recruit, hire, train, and supervise summer camp leads and coordinators to oversee the day-to-day activities of on-site camp programs. Develop student recruitment strategies and create equitable student selection and enrollment processes

Support the Community Engagement and Growth Team 10%

  • Serve as a key member of the Community Engagement and Growth Team as they partner with external vendors, community-based organizations, families, and schools.
  • Participate in team initiatives and projects, including responding to families and community members in support of building great schools.
  • Manage the enrichment budget and participate in the annual budgeting process with the finance team.

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 6-9 years of relevant experience required
  • Strong cultural competency skills, including ability to communicate and work effectively and cultivate relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders
  • Passion for education reform and the belief that every child can succeed
  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP DC’s mission and to advancing its antiracist ambition through their work with staff, students, alumni, and families
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and an ability to take initiative, receive feedback, and seek out creative ideas
  • Strong time management skills and a detail and results-oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done
  • Successful track record of collaboratively working with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort with working in a fast-paced, nonprofit environment along with an outstanding ability to multi-task, prioritize, manage, and execute projects at a high level

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

KIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package:

  • The anticipated starting salary for this position is $92,597-$114,384. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.
  • KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
  • KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
  • Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, and 12 paid holidays. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
  • As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support, and this position will regularly provide on-site support to school teams, frequently partner with other headquarters teams, or regularly work in multiple locations. Because of the nature of the work, this role allows for occasional flexibility. This role will have approximately 20% flexibility to work remotely.
