Reporting to the Dean of Institutional Researchof Pierce College District, the Director of Reporting and Analytics contributes to the college’s mission of creating quality educational opportunities for a diverse community of learners to thrive in an evolving world by analyzing highly complex centralized and disparate data systems and sets in order to develop and present meaningful reports and KPIs to inform on the strategic goals and direction of the college.

Essential Functions

The Director of Reporting and Analytics will be responsible for the following, but not limited to:

Data Leadership

  • Provides leadership and performs all necessary functions related to the collection, interpretation, and reporting of institutional data for planning, assessment, decision making, and the strategic direction of the college.
  • Facilitates institutional understanding of data bias and the trauma and harm misrepresented and/or biased data have on our systemically non-dominant populations; applies this understanding to evaluate and, if needed, modify existing data sources, sets, and reports.
  • Manages data analysis and reporting to provide insight and predictions as they relate to strategic college initiatives as a member of college wide committees and task forces.
  • Facilitates district-wide access to and training on data visualization systems and tools to support college operations and monitor key institutional performance indicators.
  • Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data and information released in reports or studies to support the transparent and open democratization of data throughout the college.
  • Serves as District Tableau Administrator; manages employee server access and security including user policy, system data configuration, and server maintenance; provides ongoing support of the Tableau server.
  • Manages, sets expectations, coaches, and trains Research Associate and Query / Reporting Coordinator(s) on the use of business intelligence tools, processes, and procedures.
  • Full-scope supervision of the Institutional Research Query / Reporting Coordinator(s).
  • Responsible for setting work priorities, evaluating, approving leave, and discipline.
  • Guides Business Intelligence (BI) integration with institution-wide planning and decision-making, including the Executive Team, Dean Team, and faculty divisions, by providing improved processes that allow for coordinated data extraction and action approaches; providing business intelligence leadership to a wide array of district efforts (including supporting teams for Achieving the Dream/Pathways, Financial Aid, induction pipeline and retention efforts, Assessment Team, Strategic Enrollment Management) that have significant impact on institutional effectiveness and Mission fulfillment.
  • Collaborates across the district to ensure the alignment of data collection and reporting requirements with the development and management of business practices and processes.
  • Chair data governance group focusing on reviewing, developing, and recommending policies, procedures, and standards for maintaining the confidentiality, accuracy, consistency, and availability of college data and the ingress and egress of data.

Reporting

  • Designs, develops, tests, implements, updates and presents business intelligence solutions, reports, and information to a variety of audiences across the institution.
  • Produces regular and ad hoc reports and visualizations by developing dashboards and workbooks for self-service and on-demand department needs.
  • Directs, guides, and manages work with stakeholders to develop and implement accurate and timely reporting solutions for strategic operational functions.
  • Provides technical expertise and data in support of intuitional efforts such as accreditation, grant development, reporting, and assessment.
  • Supports the preparation of reports for mandatory external reporting needs such as IPEDSand Gainful Employment.
  • Administers and maintains reporting environments, including user access, data configurations, and ongoing support.
  • Coordinates with IT for patching and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain data dictionaries, procedure documentation, and reporting inventories.

Analytics

  • Partners with departments throughout the college to understand data needs and abilities in order to design, develop, and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Utilizes business intelligence solutions for the college to examine and evaluate data and trends in order to make data informed decisions and recommendations on strategic initiatives.
  • Develops and implements processes for collecting, linking, and analyzing data from a variety of sources including internal systems, state and federal agencies, other higher education institutions, and employers.
  • Monitors and tests data sources to ensure a high level of data accuracy used to create business intelligence solutions and reports.
  • Applies advanced SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and functions to create data structures using best practices in data modeling, processes, and technologies.

Other Duties

  • Liaison between the State Board for Community and Technical College’s (SBCTC) Data Services department and the college for local query development and developers in the statewide Enterprise Resource Planning (EPR) system.
  • Participant in state-wide committees as related to data and reporting work.
  • May lead and/or supervise Research Associate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education Required

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Statistics, Education, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Information Technology, Psychology or related research field.

Experience Required

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in institutional planning, institutional effectiveness or assessment at a comprehensive community college or university.
  • Demonstrated experience with statistical software.
  • Demonstrated ability to extract, manipulate, and analyze data from large organizational databases.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing initiatives and compiling/analyzing data.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizing, conceptualizing, and prioritizing objectives and managing a high volume workflow office.

Terms of Employment

This is a full-time, administrative – exempt, District position. The primary work location will be at Pierce College, Fort Steilacoom campus. Frequent travel to Pierce College campuses or other sites may occur. Standard work hours are between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours required.

Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $94,189.00 to $116,534.00 annually. The salary will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and related experience. Typically, new hires start no higher than $98,114.00/year, based on Pierce College’s Administrative/Exempt Compensation Plan. Your paycheck is just part of the total compensation package. There is an outstanding benefits package which is worth an additional value equivalent to about 30% of your salary. Leave

Administrative employees working half-time or more may take space-available classes for a reduced rate through our Employee Learning and Development program.
