Director, State Government Relations
Position: Director, State Government Relations
Location: Greeley, Colorado, or Washington DC
JBS USA is seeking a Director of State Government Relations to help lead a growing Government Relations team responsible for JBS/Pilgrim’s engagement with key influencers in key states on issues related to the meat/protein sector including climate change and sustainability, food safety, trade, rural economic development and many other topics. The State Director of Government Relations should be an experienced professional with an eagerness to work to build JBS/Pilgrim’s presence and advance our mission. This person can be based with at our office in Washington DC or at our headquarters in Greeley, CO.
Responsibilities:
- The position will develop a comprehensive state government affairs strategy, oversee the implementation process of that strategy in key states, and aid in communications, external affairs, and special events.
- Work closely with the Head of Government Relations to build and strengthen the organization’s role and reputation as a leader in our field in the states we have facilities and do business in.
- Develop and propose education and outreach tactics and public policy and legislative solutions to advance the company’s business goals and objectives.
- Build and foster long-term working relationships with various state and local government agencies, officials, legislative leaders and opinion leaders including industry stakeholders, customers, and trade groups.
- Build and foster collaborative relationships with key business leaders within the organization to stay informed of new initiatives and key issues.
- Identify opportunities to support organizational initiatives and develop key messages, materials and programs to promote these initiatives with stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in state governmental affairs, legislative, public policy or public administration, political campaigns, communications, or public relations.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Business, Political Science/Government or related degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Proactively develops and executes innovative approaches that influence public policy, gathering input and collaborating internally/externally as appropriate.
- Ability to analyze sophisticated issues, interpret and communicate in concise, clear, and useful formats (including presentations, formal written documents and informal communication).
- Demonstrated planning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Role requires 25%-50% travel/driving to diverse urban and rural locations.
The applicant who fills this position will be eligible for the following compensation and benefits:
- Benefits: Vision, Medical, and Dental coverage begin after 60 days of employment;
- Paid Time Off: sick leave, vacation, and 6 company observed holidays;
- 401(k): company match begins after the first year of service and follows the company vesting schedule;
- Base salary range of $118,000 – $130,000; and
- Incentive Pay: This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan, the amount of bonus varies and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program;
For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in Colorado, JBS and Pilgrim’s is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. This compensation range is specific to the State of Colorado and takes into account various factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to a candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiencies for the role.
