TITLE:
DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Leads special education programs consistent with federal and state laws, rules and regulations and district policies and procedures. Directs school specific programs and services that allow students requiring special education services to access general education curriculum in the least restrictive environment while meeting their individual educational needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Holds postgraduate professional license with endorsements in one or more areas of special education; administrative endorsement and/or special education leadership certificate
- Minimum of three years’ experience in administration or a combination of administrative experience in progressively responsible positions and administrative or program
- Demonstrated expertise in instructional design, data analytics and specialized instructional
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding special education, students, and staff, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, IDEA, and
- Knowledge of principles in psychology and social
- Experience and/or training in investigation of claims under IDEA or Section 504 complaints involving disability discrimination and/or harassment.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Keeps abreast of developments in the fields of special education, student assessment, and school health programs; keeps other school district staff informed of developments in the field as well as changes in laws or regulations in areas of
- Directs initiatives, projects, and programs in the areas of special education and Section 504 services to students with
- Provides oversight of the Special Education Eligibility
- Attends division community and planning teams, as
- Attends all meetings of the Special Education Advisory Committee and provides direction and leadership as
- Observes and supervises all special education instructional personnel as needed, in conjunction with the Associate
- Evaluates needs for special education staff and managing the assignment of staff to buildings based on the number of students in each building and the services
- Oversees the development of all individualized education plans (IEPs) and Section 504
- Plans and implements appropriate staff development activities for student services personnel, teachers, and administrators, as
- Develops the Division’s special education plan and
- Plans regional programs to serve students with
- Prepares the budget related to student services
- Reviews requisitions for special education curriculum materials, supplies, and equipment and makes recommendations regarding
- Works in conjunction with Associate Director of Student Services in matters related to special education dispute resolution and concerns or claims under IDEA and Section
- Coordinates the manifestation hearing process for all special education students whose disciplinary offenses result in the disruption of
- Assists with specialized instructional placements for student services, including, but not limited to homebound, private day, and
- Model non-discriminatory behavior at all times and follow established safe work
