Position Summary
The Director of Undergraduate Programs, reporting directly to the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs, provides leadership, supervision, and advising for all undergraduate degrees — currently the BA in International Relations (INTS) and the BA in Public Policy (PPOL) — housed at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver. The Director of Undergraduate Programs ensures that the relevant undergraduate programs are developed, implemented, and continuously evaluated for Korbel and the University and that student interests and concerns are promptly communicated to the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs and appropriate University personnel. This includes providing a vision and strategic plan for undergraduate support and working directly with staff to implement the plan effectively.
This position will supervise the Undergrad Program Assistant and any work-study students hired to specifically support the below essential functions.
Essential Functions
Undergraduate Program Management:
- The Director of Undergraduate Programs will develop and periodically review policies and procedures related to all Korbel undergraduate student activities to ensure they are current and effective. They will ensure the office has high visibility among students as to its role in advising and ensuring compliance with DU policies, so that all students have every opportunity to be aware of the activities and services of the office and will consult with the Dean, the Associate Dean for Curriculum and Academic Programs and/or the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Registrar as needed. They will work with the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Associate Dean for Curriculum and Academic Programs on planning, implementing, and distributing undergraduate course schedules and teaching resources. This position serves as liaison with multiple programs and departments across the university who serve and support the undergraduate population as well as manages undergraduate appeals process; prepares reports and updates regarding Korbel BA programs and undergraduate student issues; and serves on campus-wide committees relevant to undergraduate student life and student affairs.
Student Advising:
- This position will advise/supervise the advising of undergraduate students on degree requirements and oversee quarterly registration. The Director oversees advising of students regarding all issues with internships and other special programs and opportunities for INTS and PPOL majors, such as departmental distinctions. The Director will advise and oversee study abroad policies relevant to the INTS and PPOL majors and minors. The Director of Undergraduate Programs will establish and maintain policies relating to student advising and ensure that advising staff are in compliance with university requirements and practices. The Director of Undergraduate Programs will also direct undergraduate students, whenever necessary, to other University resources or professionals that may be of assistance. This may entail a quick assessment of the student’s state of mind and immediate needs; ensure that good tracking mechanisms are in place for all related areas; supervise quarterly certifications for graduation; and serve as co-advisor to BA/MA joint degree students.
Korbel Inclusiveness and Culture:
- The Director of Undergraduate Programs will help to create an environment conducive to learning and community-building that welcomes all students regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, physical ability, etc. They will provide students with a sense of well-being and security and opportunities for the students in the INTS and PPOL degrees to build a sense of collective identity if they so desire. The Undergraduate Director has primary responsibility for dealing with any reported violation of or other concerns regarding Korbel policies regarding inclusiveness and works actively with the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs and the Associate Dean for Curriculum and Academic Programs to enhance inclusiveness at Korbel. The Director of Undergraduate Programs also has primary responsibility for Korbel’s compliance with ADA for all undergraduate student issues. They will help create and maintain an atmosphere in which ADA compliance is more than a mechanical process of dealing with accommodation issues but provides students with disabilities a welcoming atmosphere and personal attention and ensures that eligible students are aware of the procedures for obtaining accommodations, and encourages them to do so.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills are required, both oral and written, as well as strong organizational skills.
- Judgement in dealing with sensitive issues and proven experience shepherding issues through appropriate established protocols.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, handle sensitive issues, and have strong management and interpersonal abilities.
- Demonstrated strong computer and information management skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least five years of experience in Student Affairs Administration or a similar capacity within an academic institution
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework or experience in counseling individuals
- MA in higher education or relevant field
- A minimum of three years of supervisory experience
- Experience with Banner administrative software application
- Experience with Canvas Teaching Support software application
- Experience working with international and/or multicultural populations

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 12.
Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $75,000 – $85,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
