Director of Operations, Event Management (a.k.a. Event Logistics Planning)
We are looking for a Director of Operations, Event Management to lead the event planning team on The Collective… the evolving, fast-paced creative agency arm of BCD Meetings Events.
You are a proven and successfulteam manager who will be leading a virtual team of US-based managers, event managers and associate event managers. This team’s focus is ensuring the optimal attendee experience and flawless execution on everything from high-end incentives to board meetings and customer events, to product launches, tradeshows and conferences. They execute events for 50 -10,000 attendees and in destinations around the world.
You are a subject matter expert in high-end, complex and global event logistics planning and multi-faceted project management. You possess an engaging, professional and collaborative client-facing presence. You are more than ‘just logistics planning’ – you are a VISIONARY OF THE EXPERIENCE… CREATIVE and CONSULTATIVE by nature. You not only think on your feet and have the ability to pivot a conversation effortlessly when customers business objectives, market conditions or priorities shift but you are innovative and strategic in achieving results. You live by the word “WHY” knowing the “why” powers everything we do for our customers and their business.
As Director of Operations, Event Management you will be part of the Senior Leadership team establishing and driving the strategy to achieve our company financial and customer goals. We are looking for you lead, collaborate and challenge the status quo.
If you are a subject matter expert in event logistics planning… are skilled in the development/enhancement of overall team processes, procedures and training and… have a proven track record of motivating and developing high functioning teams… this is the perfect role for you!
If you are based in Chicago, for the first 6 months, you will be required to work out of our downtown Chicago office Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Monday and Fridays work from home. After 6 months, based on performance, you may be eligible for an extra day from home.
As a Director of Operations, Event Management you will
• Provide strategic and operational leadership over the event management team
• Develop plans and drive implementation of initiatives to help achieve our financial goals ensuring teams focus on service excellence, cost savings and margin growth.
• Drive adherence of BCD M E standard operating procedures (SOPs) and development and implement customer specific SOPs
• Actively promote and drive positivity, trust, communication, collaboration and innovation within and across teams.
• Serve as The Collective’s Event Management subject matter expert and thought leader on internal and sales and customer meetings
You have
• Minimum of 5 years experience in meetings logistics planning with a focus on complex, high-end multi-faceted events.
• Minimum 5 years of leading a best-in-class team
• Strong business acumen and presentation, public speaking skills
• Ability to building strong and trustworthy relationships with customers and internal teams
You might have
• Global event planning experience
• Account or client management experience
• SmartSheet budget management
• Project management in Monday.com
You should know:
- Our standard working hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CT with an hour break.
- Covid vaccination might be required for this role.

At BCD Meetings Events we value you, our culture and success is defined by you. We carefully consider a wide range of compensation factors, including your professional background and experience. The salary range for candidates in applicable jurisdictions in the US for the position of Director Operations, Event Management is between $95,000 and $105,000 The actual pay depends on your skills, qualifications, experience, geographical location and project budget.
