Located at Seattle Center in the heart of Seattle’s Uptown Neighborhood, the new venue offers a truly unique and intimate experience for the newest NHL franchise, the Seattle Kraken, WNBA’s Seattle Storm, concerts and other entertainment events, while preserving the historic nature of Seattle Center and its surroundings. This project is a completely new arena beneath its existing historic-landmark roof. Climate Pledge Arena opened October 22, 2021.
Position Summary:
The Director of People & Culture will develop and support the human resource plans, policies, and programs to support the Arena’s strategic direction and business plans. This position reports directly to the VP, People & Culture and oversees all aspects of human resources including: labor relations, recruitment, salary administration, benefits, job evaluation, training and development, performance management, maintenance of employee information records and systems, and for the provision of advice and guidance to management and staff on human resource matters.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Develops and implements an annual HR business plan with specific goals and objectives that are aligned with the Company’s strategic plan.
• Directs, administers, leads the development of human resource policies, programs and initiatives in all areas of human resources including recruitment, HRIS, employee retention and recognition, compensation, benefits administration, training and development, performance management and organizational development.
• Directs the day-to-day operations of the HR Department, fostering an environment that is conducive to a high-performance team, quality initiatives and continuous improvement.
• Provides advice and guidance to HR Staff and managers regarding the administration, interpretation and compliance of the Event Staff Collective Agreement. Coordinates and directs the preparation of employer proposals and responses for collective bargaining. Represents the Company on labor/management committees, in late-stage grievance resolution, labor arbitration cases and other related labor relations matters. Develops and maintains harmonious union/management relations. Prepares agreements such as MOU’s and LOU’s between the Company and its bargaining unit.
• Participates and helps drive all DEI Initiatives, championing a safe environment for all.
• Keeps informed of trends and developments in the human resources field through participation in various organizations and committees and ongoing learning.
• Participates in other duties and special projects as required.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
• A proven and progressive Human Resources professional with a minimum 8+ years’ related experience
• Experience within a unionized environment, dealing directly with labor relations issues, is a definite plus
• Expertise in all aspects of HR including labor relations, compensation, benefits, training & development, job evaluation, HR Information Systems and recruitment.
• A team player with a strong client service focus
• Solid interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to interact effectively with diverse client groups
• Proven ability to support diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives within an organization
• Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, objectivity, confidentiality, good judgment and professionalism when handling all HR related issues
• A self-starter who is proactive in putting thought, creativity, and ingenuity into work assignments
• Approaches problem solving in a practical, client-centered manner
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects
Working Conditions:
• Minimal Travel (<10% travel): May be required to travel. Trips may require air travel and/or
overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required

Compensation:
- In accordance with the Washington State Equal Pay and Opportunity Act, the expected base pay range for this position is $110,000 – $120,000. Actual base pay will depend on employee’s experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
- This role is exempt and not eligible for overtime pay
- We believe it takes a great team to build an award-winning organization. As an impactful member of the team, this role is bonus eligible
