PURPOSE:
Purpose of the Director, Performance Data Analytics is to oversee all activities dealing with data and ensure alignment with the business’s vision and objectives. Individual will organize the technology, processes and financial resources necessary to address the current and future analytics needs of the business. Provides thought leadership and acts as a subject matter expert in the designing and recommending of appropriate analytical approaches and methodologies. Provides management responsibility into data-driven insights that inform the business’s strategic direction. Client reporting analytics both internal and external and market facing.
How Is This Role Important to Our Work?
The Director, Performance Analytics will lead two distinct functions in the Core Markets business – client reporting/analytics and product/segment analytics.
CareFirst is on the precipice of refreshing the commercial client reporting and analytics support model. The leader of this team will spearhead an effort to refine requirements, issue request for proposal and select a performance analytics solution to meet the evolving needs of commercial customers, oversee the implementation of the new solution and make recommendations for a resource support model to best support sales and client management with analytic insights, narratives, and market facing activities.
Additionally, the Core Markets team relies heavily on data and analysis to support business strategy and decision making across a wide variety of topics and issues. The segment and product analytics team supports the business through a variety of recurring and ad hoc analyses and reports.
This position is a leadership role, to establish a center of analytic excellence to support the core markets business across both internally facing and externally facing customers. The leader will bring together existing teams with disparate functions but similar foundations, establish departmental processes and coordinate key actions across the organization. The Director, Performance Analytics position works with varying levels of leadership across all functional areas of CareFirst, and will be called on to support requirements and strategy developed from an analytic and reporting perspective as new products, solutions and go to market initiatives are developed.
A Day in the Life:
- Understand and remain informed about customer requirements for data, analytic and reporting needs. Develop a perspective on future needs and solutions for closing gaps.
- Represents CareFirst in high visibility with brokers, consultants and select customers
- Works collaboratively with partners in IT, sales/client management, and marketing/product to ensure data and insights are available as needed to support decision making, both internally and externally.
- Manage a team of analysts and subject matter experts – current structure includes 2 Managers with 4 and 8 direct reports each.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Direct/Manage/Supervise data analysis in support of a variety of analytic solutions.
- Partner with stakeholders to understand data requirements and with internal and/or external resources to develop tools and services such as segmentation, modeling, dashboard development, decision aids, and business case analysis to support the organization.
- Identify and define both process and data improvements. Ensure compliance with deliverable reporting requirements by performing quality data audits and analysis.
- Oversee the creation and delivery of high-quality analysis, and work to grow analytics offerings.
- Ensure data integrity by implementing quality assurance practices.
- Implement data strategies and manage projects and resources.
- Act as central repository of approaches, standards and best practices while supporting embedded analytics teams within other benefits functions. Helps coordinate collaboration across the embedded analytics teams when necessary.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position manages people.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field OR in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.
Experience: 8 years Progressive experience relating to data analytics/data analysis. 3 years Management experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree.
- Conceptual data and cloud architecture – understands major native data components in Azure and/or AWS and there relationships and use cases.
- Mastery of relational database theory include SQL and at least one major RDBMS.
- Well versed in Big Data scenarios and applications.
- Experience with multiple analytics delivery tools, methods, and platforms including PowerBI and/or Tableau.
- Understanding of Advanced Analytics use cases and the applications of AI/ML for predictive analytics.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Strong quantitative and qualitative skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of analytical tools, such as SAS, Excel, SQL.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Ability to train others.
Salary Range: $143,200 – $220,000 (offers are based on education, experience & equity)
