The Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated Director for our Risk and Analytics team. Responsibilities include leading a team of business analysts who support business analytics and decision-making processes, including business, technology, and process improvements. The Director is an active participant and plays a significant leadership role in implementing strategic priorities at the business unit level while contributing to overall enterprise data strategy and governance. Providing subject matter expertise on all matters of business analytical or operational data needs. Works closely with enterprise and business process owners to integrate data analytics into business processes to improve business performance. The Director supports strategic initiatives and fulfills business plans to ensure department success.
This position is a hybrid work type and can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX; Plano, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Charlotte, NC; Colorado Springs, CO or Tampa, FL. Hybrid roles help employees gain the best of both worlds – collaborating in-person in the office and working from home when needed to achieve focused results.
What you’ll do:
- Identifies and manages existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
- Follows written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures for business activities.
- Partners with the business and Information Technology to meet the needs for COSA data reporting, analytics and complex projects.
- Leads the compilation, analysis and reporting of COSA data.
- A strategic partner and subject matter expert in consulting and advising business partners on ad-hoc or undefined matters related to business analytics and decision support solutions.
- Identifies and pursues opportunities to apply advanced data delivery and business solutions techniques to optimize their contribution to resolving business issues.
- Interacts across key enterprise stakeholders to deliver and improve efficiency and effectiveness of the reporting needs.
- Responsible for building and leading high performance work teams responsible for collaborating with stakeholders to define data analytic needs for business function.
- Ensures teams maintain understanding of business processes, supporting data and applications and strategic direction.
- Provides strategic analytical support, develops recommendations based on trend analysis and suggests alternative performance metrics.
- Champions proactive communication between business/enterprise processes and analytics team to improve delivery, value and integration of analytics into business/enterprise processes.
- Establishes quality assurance and audit processes that ensure data integrity, accuracy and protection as necessary.
- Maintains adequate controls and conducts periodic reviews to ensure compliance with Federal laws, statutes for state/locality, and company policies.
- Engages with senior management and/or general counsel to obtain approvals to release critical data.
- Coordinates input from multiple sources, synthesizes data/information and creates qualitative commentary capturing key messages.
- Builds and oversees a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.
What you have:
- Bachelor’s Degree OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- 8 years of directly related experience in data analysis/extraction, statistics, data management, analytics and/or data reporting.
- 3 years of direct team lead or management experience.
- Advanced knowledge of data manipulation, data reporting/analysis tools and techniques.
- Advanced knowledge of identifying, documenting and analyzing business and/or data requirements.
- Comprehensive understanding of compliance, risk management, and data security frameworks.
- Experience gathering requirements and delivering reports for presentation to Sr. Leadership, Board of Directors, Committees, etc.
- Experience in creating automated reports and interactive visualizations using tools such as Python and Tableau.
- Experienced knowledge of Microsoft Office tools to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
What sets you apart:
- Experience and comfort engaging with C-SUITE executives and creating strategies.
- Master’s degree in Analytics.
- Proficient in Statistical Analysis System (SAS) programming.

What we offer:
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $115,240 – $207,430.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
