    Overview

    The Director of Risk Management at KeHE Distributors will provide thought leadership and be responsible for developing, administering, and directing the various components of risk management including insurance and general liability, workers’ compensation insurance and administration, loss prevention, and enterprise risk and safety. This role reports directly to the General Counsel.

    Primary Responsibilities

    DUTIES, TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Proactively research and identify strategies on the most cost-effective plans to minimize asset liability or mitigate risk.
    • Develop and implement crisis management plans to respond to unpredictable emergencies or safety situations. This may include cross functional teams.
    • Function as the liaison to attorneys, insurance companies and individuals, investigating any incidences that may result in asset loss.
    • Investigate and analyze actual and potential risks; assess liability and probability of legal action; recommend appropriate actions to minimize institutional risks.
    • Negotiate settlement of claims within authority granted by insurance vehicle(s) and administration; deny claims as appropriate.
    • Attend regular meetings with insurance carriers and assist in assessing liability exposure and setting financial reserves.
      Partner with leaders to review, code and investigate incident reports; recommend corrective action as appropriate.
    • Develop and conduct regular Safety training and Risk Management classes stressing good documentation and incident reporting to reduce KeHE’s liability exposure.
    • Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
      Understand and interpret City, State and Federal regulations and statutes relative to self-insurance and risk management.
    • Coordinate with defense counsel and/or attend Worker’s Compensation claims before the Worker’s Compensation Appeals Board; administer and/or provide staff input to KeHE’s Counsel on all contractual agreements, insurance contacts and levels of insurance; counsel employees and others in relation to insurance program activities, benefits, and actions.
    • Administer the pre-placement and annual physical examination programs; gather and maintain accident, injury and other statistics and records.
    • Interpret and effectively apply regulations as they relate to Workers’ Compensation, industrial safety, and insurance; recognize training needs and develop effective safety training programs.
    • Serves as a privacy officer to maintain safeguards of confidential company information.
    • Other duties and special projects as requested.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • A minimum of five (5) years of experience administering safety, accident prevention and insurance and risk management programs.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
    • One or more of the industry specific certifications highly preferred, such as CSP, CPE, ASP and/or ASSE.
    • MS Office skills required with an emphasis on Excel.
