This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic legal department and a team of talented Privacy professionals. The Palo Alto Networks Privacy team works with all departments across Palo Alto Networks to incorporate privacy and security in everything we do, by providing guidance, education and tools to facilitate adoption of our products and to make Palo Alto Networks a trusted brand for privacy and security.
We are seeking a self-starter and solution-focused team player who enjoys working collaboratively as well as driving projects independently. You are focused on delivering compliant and impactful solutions for the business.
The Director, Senior Privacy Counsel takes a collaborative approach to building privacy and security frameworks. You will be a key legal partner to the cross-functional teams, including with teams that build our best-in-class cybersecurity products.
You will work on critical privacy, security, and AI and ML initiatives with key stakeholders across the company. You are motivated by unique issues and enthusiastic about being the legal partner to our Infosec, IT, HR, Products and Data teams. You are experienced in translating complex legal issues into efficient and practical solutions for the company.
You have a “can do” attitude and will execute on results-focused solutions with the goal of mitigating legal risks. You will have substantial experience advising and actioning on security, privacy, and AI and ML projects and be engaged in keeping up-to-date with the evolving landscape related to data, privacy and cybersecurity. You are enthusiastic about rolling up your sleeves in taking on a variety of projects and delivering impactful results.
Your Impact
- Work closely with the functional teams to understand their perspectives, processes, applications, projects and technologies to ensure compliance with applicable privacy and data security laws, regulations, and industry best practices while guiding and delivering solutions for the teams
- Provide legal advice and direction to all stakeholders across the company on matters regarding privacy and data protection, including supporting commercial counsels on privacy negotiations
- Work with legal colleagues at global level to facilitate implementation of privacy and security tools and processes
- In collaboration with legal colleagues and functional leaders, conduct privacy and data impact assessments and other security assessments
- Support all members of the legal team in proactively addressing privacy and related security requirements as they impact or apply to their areas of responsibility
- Support privacy compliance efforts across the company, and with external stakeholders as needed, address privacy audits and facilitate development and implementation of tools, policies, and procedures, etc.
- Partner with the functional teams, including Information Security and Information Technology, teams to implement best practices for management and protection of confidential and personal information and to develop appropriate policies and standards
- Develop and deliver training and communications on privacy and security matters
- Manage outside counsel on privacy matters
- Handle special projects as requested
Qualifications
Your Experience
- Education – J.D. degree from ABA accredited law school or equivalent military experience required
- Bar – Must be a member in good standing of an applicable state
- 8+ years of significant experience in implementing and successfully delivering on privacy focused projects such as data mapping, data privacy impact assessments, third party risk assessments, and data related policies
- In-house experience at a technology or cybersecurity company is required
- Expertise in legal issues impacting the cybersecurity and privacy industry including self-regulatory guidelines, privacy issues and legislation, and global privacy and security laws & regulations (e.g, GDPR, NIS2 Directive, CCPA/CPRA, and other security and data protection frameworks)
- Significant experience negotiating a wide range of data privacy and SaaS agreements
- Significant experience advising on a range of privacy and compliance issues, regulations, and industry standards with a focus on data use and cybersecurity
- Experience reviewing SaaS technology features to provide privacy advice consistent with legal obligations in multiple jurisdictions

The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be between $200,600/yr to $324,500/yr. The offered compensation may also include restricted stock units and a bonus. A description of our employee benefits may be found here.
