The Position
Strategic Analytics is a growing team at Arch. The team develops innovative predictive models and analytical tools to improve profitability and growth. As Director, Strategic Analytics, you will play a crucial role in developing the team’s analytics capability. You will work on high-profile advanced analytics projects that drive the company’s decision-making and strategy. You will work with or direct other data scientists to build best-in-class predictive models with creativity, statistical rigor and business sense. As a key member of the Strategic Analytics team, you will advance our advanced analytics capabilities and shape how Arch thinks about data and analytics.
Please note this is a hybrid position (2x in office/week) and will report into one of our east coast offices: Boston, MA; Hartford, CT; New York, NY; White Plains, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Jersey City, NJ; Raleigh, NC; Greensboro, NC.
Job Responsibilities
- Strategic Analytics is an implementation focused team. You will work to establish strong relationships with business partners to understand the problems they are trying to solve and work to implement the best-suited analytics solutions
- Build predictive models using advanced analytics techniques including GLM, text analytics, and machine learning
- Establish robust monitoring processes for implemented solutions and provide regular feedback to business partners
- Develop powerful insights and tools using a variety of analytical techniques and technologies
- Collaborate in cross-functional teams and share ideas to solve complex business problems
- Build strong partnerships with peers across the organization to support project goals and boarder team needs
- Discover, explore and analyze internal and external datasets for the purpose of developing advanced analytics models
- Help establish best practices and repeatable processes for the Strategic Analytics team
- Provide thought leadership on new, innovative techniques, approaches and software
- Guide, support, mentor and develop the growing team of predictive modelers and data scientists
Required Skills/Experience
- 6+ years’ experience in advanced analytics role in P/C insurance, preferably commercial lines
- Track record of delivering significant business value from small or non-standard data sets
- Proven hands-on experience developing generalized linear models in a commercial lines setting including loss ratio, frequency/severity, pure premium, claims modeling
- Familiarity with a variety of other advanced analytics techniques is preferable, for example: decision trees, clustering, text mining, random forests, survival analysis, etc.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills; ability to convey complex concepts to people across the organization
- Experience coding in Python, R or SQL
- Ability to design, build and implement new modeling approaches
- Exceptional teamwork skills required to play a key role in cross-functional teams. Ability to collaborate and build trusting relationships with business partners
- Natural curiosity to understand the world around you and question as needed
- Comfortable handling ambiguous concepts and breaking down complex problems into manageable pieces.
- Combines critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
- Demonstrable execution and organization skills – task management, time management and project management
- Detailed understanding of statistical theory, predictive modeling, data mining and other advanced analytical techniques
Desired Skills/Experience
- Knowledge of visualization tools such as PowerBI
- Experience developing models in cloud-based tools in Azure such as Databricks, Snowflake, Github
- Experience with cloud-based model deployment via MLOps
- P/C commercial lines actuarial experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in statistics, actuarial science, mathematics, engineering or similar quantitative fields; or significant experience in advanced data analytics
- Actuarial designation is a plus

For individuals assigned or hired to work in Jersey City, New York City, and/ or Westchester County, the base salary range is $148,614 to $201,066 as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.
Total individual compensation (base salary, short and long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope and responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability and specialization, as well as business needs. The above range may be modified in the future.
