Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement Operations, the Director of Talent Acquisition and Inclusion is an enthusiastic and motivated talent management professional with a proven track record in developing and implementing programs designed to acquire and retain top talent for fundraising and other advancement positions. The successful candidate will advise and support University of Denver (DU) Advancement leaders and hiring managers through competitive search processes designed to attract top candidates. The role will also serve as an ambassador, representing DU in a positive and professional manner to the external community and positioning DU as an employer of choice.

Additionally, the Director will have oversight of Advancement’s diversity, equity, and inclusion activities. The Director will envision, strategize, advocate, implement, and document processes, initiatives, and measurable actions leading to greater diversity, inclusion and belonging in Advancement. The Director will foster a culture that values and prioritizes diversity, recognizing the importance of these connections in helping individuals flourish and supporting the robust collaborations needed to attract and retain world-class talent.

Essential Functions

Talent Acquisition

  • Create and continually improve a full-cycle candidate outreach and selection plan for the Advancement organization. This includes the development and assessment of:
  • Robust and proactive strategy for talent acquisition designed to identify and attract top Advancement talent and adhere to DU policies and industry standards including pipelining of qualified candidates for current and future consideration.
  • Competitive and equitable search practices including supporting hiring managers in interviewing candidates, crafting interview strategies, collecting and synthesizing feedback, and extending and negotiating offers while adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Orientation and onboarding programs that effectively acclimate new Advancement staff members to the organization.
  • Organizational branding practices to build reputational strength for DU Advancement.
  • Work collaboratively with DU Human Resources and Inclusive Communities, Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusions, and Title IX Office to maximize resources effectively and efficiently to achieve mutual goals.
  • Create and maintain Advancement-wide acquisition related metrics to create recruitment/retention strategies to reduce unwanted turnover across the division.

Inclusion

  • Design, build, execute and track diversity and inclusion recruitment and hiring strategies, including but not limited to recruitment marketing, targeted recruitment, resources for search committees, all phases of interviewing, and onboarding.
  • Oversee the implementation of DEIB strategic talent initiatives, communicate and coordinate with stakeholders; assess impact and measures progress toward goals, and look ahead toward future priorities in areas of DEIB.
  • Create inclusive spaces and practices, celebrating diversity in Advancement, and supporting recruitment of a diverse community centered around DUs values.

University Citizenship

  • Act as an ambassador and present University of Denver in a positive and professional manner to the external community, positioning DU Advancement as an employer of choice.
  • Provide comprehensive and accessible written and verbal updates and presentations to various audiences at all levels. Assess and advise on related department/program/unit actions plans.
  • Serve as Advancement representative at industry events, meetings, and professional associations. (e.g. AFP, CASE, AADO, PCUAD).
  • Serve as an active and collaborative partner to central and unit-based advancement functions and other campus colleagues to foster strategic, effective, and collaborative talent management practices.
  • Model “One DU” leadership.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated success recruiting for a broad array of positions at various experience levels (junior level to senior-level executive search experience) in a high-volume and deadline-driven environment.
  • Knowledge of and experience with current laws, research, best practices, and trends in the field of DEIB and experience documenting and analyzing appropriate data to inform, assess and track recruiting and DEIB initiatives.
  • Strong written, oral, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate information that is credible and persuasive, using both quantitative and qualitative measures.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively with leaders, staff, and other constituent groups with the ability to work well in both independent and collaborative environments.
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to practice and adhere to organizational values.
  • Demonstrated proficiencies with MS Office, data management tools, HRIS systems, and applicant tracking system.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education or work experience (Veterans with equivalent combination of military certification/education and experience may substitute for the degree qualification)
  • 5 years of experience in full-cycle recruiting including experience implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion-focused initiatives
  • Supervisory experience
  • Budget management experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recruiting experience in higher education or similarly complex non-profit organization specifically supporting advancement efforts
  • Network of professionals within U.S. higher education development institutions
  • Advanced degree in related field (e.g. human resources, organizational development, non-profit management)
  • Experience with PageUp applicant tracking system

Working Environment

  • Standard open office environment
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate
  • Eligible for hybrid work

Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period
  • Must be willing and able to travel between multiple buildings across campus, and to move computer hardware from building to building with assistance (occasionally up to 20lb)

Work Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., some nights and weekends as required. Eligible for hybrid work.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 13.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $80,000 – $105,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
