Disaster Services Trainer (Hybrid Eligible)

What You’ll Do:

Ohio Department of Public Safety – Emergency Management Agency

Report In Location: 2855 W. Dublin Granville Road, Columbus, Ohio 43235

Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

(CURRENTLY HYBRID ELIGIBLE) Will report into the office 3 days a week and telework 2 day a week. Subject to change.

Under general direction of Planner Supervisor, provides regional & statewide emergency management assistance in improving local & state level operational readiness capabilities to respond to & recover from emergencies & disasters through training & exercise activities; Provides comprehensive technical guidance & assistance in preparedness training & exercise based on an assessment of local program needs; Assists in development & implementation of a progressive training & exercise plan based on review of the jurisdictions emergency operations plan, for a specific target population &/or subject matter for Emergency Management Agency (EMA) & recommends & plans training & exercise activities to meet those needs; Provides training assistance to local political subdivision officials in emergency management (e.g., administers training & exercise programs, coordinates with field staff & other sections to assist localities in development of training & exercise criteria, programs & training goals; maintenance of eligibility to participate in Federal Emergency Management Agency financial programs & to obtain a more comprehensive level of understanding by officials of the preparedness status they need to obtain & maintain); Coordinates with local, state & federal officials & EMA to ensure required & exercises are conducted in accordance with established standards, guidelines & procedures so that uniformity, safety & quality are achieved on a statewide basis & to ensure that exercise & training coursed are designed appropriately.

Plans, schedules & conducts training & exercise programs (e.g., schedules employees to attend sessions; schedules instructors to conduct sessions; prepares materials & teaches sessions; conducts workshop, reviews & revises training materials); Reviews & participates in emergency/disaster policies, procedures & reports (e.g., FEMA emergency management performance grant quarterly reports, federal grant requirements, training/exercise development & improvement of the state emergency operations center).

Maintains records & reports related to training & exercise activities (e.g., compiles training & exercise data; prepares correspondence; disseminates information regarding scheduling & course materials; maintains training files); Cooperates with all appropriate emergency management sections to evaluate & report on emergency operational readiness capabilities of local political subdivisions through interviews & with local officials, examinations of plans, operations, physical equipment, & related resources used in emergency plans & exercises.

Represents state at county/regional level events involving emergency management (preparedness/response), meets to negotiate/discuss issues with local officials, state legislators & staff members from Ohio Congressional Delegation; Presents state policy to local governments for emergency management & relays concerns to administration officials.

Provides assists during emergencies to the State Emergency Operations Center during emergencies/disaster activations & exercises (e.g., contacts counties situation writer, mission tracking, general assistance).

Qualifications
Completion of undergraduate major core program in emergency management, public or business administration; 2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. in disaster services & emergency operations; must be able to provide own transportation.

-Or 2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. in emergency management, public or business administration; 2 yr. trg. or 2 yr. exp. in disaster services & emergency operations; must be able to provide own transportation.

-Or 2 yrs. exp. as Disaster Services Consultant 1, 64911; must be able to provide own transportation.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
