As a Dispatcher Lead, you will supervise the daily operations of the Door County 911 Communication Center. The Dispatcher Lead maintains an understanding of all equipment including infrastructure, and maintains a positive working relationship with all vendors. As a Dispatcher Lead, you are the working liaison with each agency the Communications Center dispatches for, including LAW, Fire, EMS, DNR, Coast Guard, Wisconsin State Patrol, etc. The Dispatcher Lead performs all 911 Dispatcher duties and is responsible for providing truthful and accurate written and verbal communications.

Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement the yearly work schedule including time off requests and overtime.
- Provide and coordinate the continuing education for this division of the department.
- Supervise Field Training Officer (FTO) Program.
- Maintain and update policies and procedures for the supervision of the Communications Center.
- Maintain an understanding of operations of all equipment and infrastructure in the Communications Center to enable troubleshooting/repair in time of equipment failure and to make recommendations regarding purchase of equipment.
- Develop and implement a continuous quality improvement (CQI) program for the Communications Center.
- Provide decision making and problem solving of daily issues and recommend discipline when warranted.
- Run monthly training sessions/drills.
- Monthly validation of Transaction Information for the Management of Enforcement (TIME) system entries.
Dispatcher Duties and Responsibilities
- Must have the ability to multitask (listen to radio traffic, listen to the caller on the phone and type information into the computer at the same time.)
- Answers and routes telephone calls and messages of an emergency and non-emergency nature to the proper public service agency.
- Implements proper and current data input procedure on keyboard terminals in order to ensure data is properly transmitted to the computer.
- Ascertains proper routing of incident information through geographic knowledge of the County.
- Relays further information as needed throughout the duration of an emergency situation.
- Keeps records and data in accordance with department rules.
- Approves phone line traces after following all required procedures and guidelines.
- Logs calls and activities as required.
- Monitors weather radar and follows severe weather procedures when situation dictates such.
- Must be proficient in the TIME System which includes; entry of warrants, restraining orders, missing persons, stolen items, criminal histories, administrative messages, hit confirmations etc. and traffic stops.
- Routes, transmits, and interprets teletype messages.
- Operates radio transmitter in accordance with FCC Rules and Regulations.
- Participates and attends job related meetings and training.
- Briefs incoming shift regarding status of current incidents, problems, etc.
Training, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Required Training and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Wisconsin Time System Certification, Basic and Advanced; obtain within 6 months from date of hire.
- Ability to obtain certification in CPR within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Training and Experience
- Two (2) years or more performing 911 Dispatcher duties strongly desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Working knowledge of communication equipment, infrastructure, and computer software.
- Ability to evaluate maintenance programs for equipment, training, inventory control, etc.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate, both verbally and in writing as well as effectively administer by written, and verbal communications.
- Ability to direct, coordinate and train personnel on communications equipment, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to use tact and courtesy in maintaining an effective working relationship with department employees, county supervisors, county officials, and general public.
