Description:
West Hartford Public Schools seeks an outstanding individual to help develop, improve, and maintain the communication between the district and its various stakeholders.
The Communications Specialist will report directly to the Director of Equity Advancement.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in copywriting and communications strategy development (a Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field is preferred)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly computer proficient in PC and Mac with capability in email, Google Suite, MS Office, and related business and communication tools
- Graphic design experience using a variety of mediums
- Content writing experience for multimedia platforms
- Proven social media and networking expertise
- A portfolio of work available for review
- Bilingual or multilingual proficiency desired
Performance Responsibilities:
Internal Communication:
- Develop, write and manage all internal communications systems between the Superintendent and Executive Team to all district staff:
- This task would include the development of internal press releases, Superintendent and Equity Advancement newsletters, and opportunities to engage district employees in strategic work.
- Facilitate internal communications regarding initiative work.
External Communications:
- Develop, write, and manage all external communications from the district to multiple stakeholders
- Collaborate on the maintenance of the Office of Equity Advancement webpage, Smore, and social media pages
- Develop, write, and manage the One Office of Equity Advancement newsletters
- Develop, write, and manage district press releases
- Collaborate on the development of special district campaigns
- Develop, write, and manage district public relations/marketing plan and district/school brochures/marketing materials
- Facilitate/participate in community engagement strategic communications regarding initiative work
- Parent/community forum facilitation
- Assist with grant writing
- Develop overall layout and production design for newsletters, reports, displays, promotional materials, social media posts, etc.
- Create visual text and imagery concepts to communicate ideas that inform, inspire, captivate or call to action.
Parent Liaison:
- Collaborate on response to parent/community concerns/complaints/compliments
- Communicate with and update the Superintendent’s Cabinet regarding community needs
- Participate in district recruiting efforts regarding Open Choice and magnet school enrollment
