TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have two (2) – three (3) years of relevant experience, a basic understanding of image size/dimensions, general copywriting and/or proofing, attend training sessions or seek out 1:1 support, and commit to learning web accessibility requirements. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

SKILLS AND ABILITY:

The successful candidate for the position must possess the following skills and abilities:

  • Ability to crop photos while maintaining the correct aspect ratio
  • Proficient in proofreading both long and short-form content
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge and skills creatively and in a timely, effective manner
  • Must be tech-savvy and have a grasp of content management systems, e-newsletter services, and basic HTML
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, engage in brainstorming, problem-solving, and teamwork
  • Ability to communicate effectively, and professionally, with great customer service, and respond to questions from groups including staff, parents and the general public

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Webmaster Duties

  • Learn CMS (Blackboard Web Community Manager) and work closely with school and district staff to keep the school website current and accessible, posting content regularly.
  • Frequently review site content and pay attention to detail so that the school or department web pages are visually appealing, professional, and informative.
  • Ensure all pages meet or exceed ADA accessibility compliance.
  • Remove outdated or inaccurate information and fix any errors in a timely manner.
  • Proficiency in writing and proofing content. Some editing of images and graphics is also necessary.
  • Adhere to best practices and utilize the FPS style guide as provided to maintain consistency across published content.
  • Be familiar with basic search engine optimization (SEO) best practices to maximize site visibility.
  • Gather web analytics and share data/results with stakeholder groups as needed.
  • Pursue and receive training on the CMS platform, web accessibility, and general best practices.
  • Guide school and department-based content creators on the aspects and areas of the website so that all dynamic information is complete, accurate, and transparent. For example, title, excerpt, and body for news items.

School Webmaster Duties

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the school’s website, ensuring that the functionality, navigation, and overall performance meet the needs of our community.
    • Gathering and posting School News, Principal Newsletters, and/or Announcements
    • Calendar events
      • Work with the Office Manager to enforce proper syncing occurs between the school’s Google Calendar and the School Website Calendar.
      • Ensure all events are filled in completely with details and descriptions and are updated in a timely manner.
    • Staff and Classroom directories
    • Photo Slideshows for the homepage
    • PTO Homepage Spotlight to promote events, elections, fundraisers
    • Optimizing files, images, and links
  • Work collaboratively with:z
    • School leaders, office staff, and additional school staff, including teachers that will share lessons, experiences, accolades, and other elements that highlight positive school interactions.
    • The school’s PTO posts content to the website that seeks support for the enrichment and educational programs sponsored or provided by the PTO.
    • Out-of-school-time (OST) Coordinators to share program information, special events, and activities for students/families
    • The school administrator who manages the school’s social media accounts for increased sharing of content and driving people to the website to learn more. (if applicable)

Department Webmaster Duties

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the department’s website, ensuring that the functionality, navigation, and overall performance meet the needs of our community.
    • Gathering and posting Department News, required notices, and/or Announcements
    • Contribute to the district Event Calendar as appropriate
    • Staff Directory Updates
    • Optimizing files, images, and links
  • Work collaboratively with Department Administrator(s) and staff to collect updates and then post them to the website, showcasing experiences, accolades, and other elements that highlight positive central office accomplishments.
  • Work collaboratively with the Communications Office to share and highlight experiences, accolades, and other elements via Social Media and through District Newsletters.

Much of this work is and should be done from a desktop computer, laptop, or Chromebook, but can be done from a mobile phone, although that is not recommended because it is easy to make mistakes on a small screen.

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) CLASSIFICATION:

This position is classified as Exempt (Professional).

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Covered under the School Committee Policy (Unit V: Non-Bargaining)

Twelve (12) Month Position – 19.25 per week

Salary Range: $25,38 per hour to $32.63 per hour
