Framatome is seeking an Early Career Tooling Engineer for our Mill Ridge Road office in Lynchburg, Virginia. Framatome is a provider of innovative solutions to our customers to meet their on-going needs. One area of innovation is within our liner and coating solutions, which includes spray in place pipe liners and component thin-film coating applications. These solutions have numerous applications and provide solutions to current and growing degradation issues at our customer’s facilities. Our Products and Inovation Group is looking for an engineer that is self-motivated and has a passion for problem solving to support product tooling development and field deployment support.
Under supervision, performs broad design engineering assignments requiring originality, ingenuity and the development of new methods. Provides support with in-pipe and application tooling design and supports tooling component assembly and testing. Task may include technical support related to planning, designing, analyzing, constructing and maintaining robotic tooling and components that support liner applications.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Performs a variety of engineering assignments typically in areas of design, development, analysis, evaluation, testing, preparation of specifications, execution of field tasks and resolution of field problems.
- Ensures compliance with government, organization and customer engineering standards.
- Independently evaluates, selects and applies a variety of technical techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgement in making more complex adaptations and modifications.
- Supports development of new or adapted products, methods, systems or models to provide added value solutions to customers.
- Researches and assesses best practices, proposing methods and improvements.
- Performs other related duties and tasks, as required,
- Develop tooling procedures, specifications, design documents in support of the design and implementation of liner tooling and components.
- Coordinate with various other Framatome technical groups on design and testing.
- Support projects as technical tooling lead, deploying to sites as required.
Travel: Up to 25%
Required Experience
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for this opportunity:
- BS in Robotics or Mechanical Engineering/Engineering Technology plus 0 -2 years of engineering experience. In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4 year engineering degree

The following may be used to differentiate candidates who apply for this position:
- Previous internship/co-op experience in field of study associated with Robotic Design
- Basic knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques and criteria
- Basic communication skills including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data
- Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships
- Good problem identification and problem resolution skills
- Engineering organizations may have additional qualification requirements with established criterion to demonstrate success, including such items as training courses and/or qualification cards
- Robotic / tooling design practice.
- Proficient in the use of WORD, EXCEL, and POWERPOINT software.
- Proficient in the use of SOLIDWORKs and CAD processes.
- Experience with applicable robotic and tooling design codes and standards
- Strong multi-disciplinary technical background to cover all aspects of tooling development (mechanical, electrical, controls)
- Understanding of nuclear environment a plus, including applicable regulations and code requirements that must be met for nuclear applications
- Proven history of customer relationships
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work across business teams
- Knowledge of robotic and tooling design
- Good communication skills including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data
- Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships

Our total rewards package
The range of base salary for the position is between $61,000 – $79,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
