Summary of Position:
This is a temporary position, with potential to participate in other school year sessions. The EKT Teacher will facilitate a kindergarten transition program for incoming Kindergarten students. With the support of a Classroom Assistant, Instructors will be responsible for leading structured classes while maintaining positive behavior management and incentive systems for a group of up to 20 students. The Early Kindergarten Transition Teacher is a part time, temporary employee of Metropolitan Family Service.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement engaging, structured, and age-appropriate lessons for students transitioning into Kindergarten over the summer, following Multnomah County’s EKT model and curriculum
- Establish and maintain positive classroom expectations and incentive programs
- Follow school discipline and safety procedures to ensure student safety, and to maintain a clear connection between school-day and extended day policies and procedures
- Develop positive working relationships with students, families, teachers, school staff, custodians, and program volunteers
- Work in collaboration with EKT staff, including the Classroom Assistant, Parent Educator, and Child-care Specialist
- Communicate frequently with the Site Manager and Principal about student progress, successes, and concerns, as well as overall class development and any supports needed
- Maintain physical classroom space to the standards of the school day teacher (if shared)
- All new employees must pass a background check through Metropolitan Family Service
- One staff training is required before the start of the session (date and time TBA), and new hire paperwork must be completed in a timely manner
- Record and submit attendance daily
Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Oregon Teaching certification
- Experience teaching young children and developing curriculum
- Desire and ability to work with children in a summer school setting, ensuring an enriching, safe, and positive learning environment
- Drive to employ creativity and draw on available resources in developing academic lessons to engage students during after school hours (e.g. kinesthetic learning activities, games, group projects)
- Demonstrated cultural competency and experience working with diverse populations of youth
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency using classroom technology and available resources in a creative manner
- Ability to work cooperatively and as part of a team
- Willingness to be flexible as necessary and ask questions for clarification and job completion
- Commitment to the goals of Centennial School District, Meadows Elementary School, and MFS
Work Location: In person
License/Certification: Teaching Certification (Preferred)
HOURS: EKT Teacher hours will be from 8:00-1:00 pm, Monday-Friday, $40/hr
*Five days a week
*August 7th-August 18 (10 program days)
*Additional hours available for training and prep time
