This position will operate numerous small equipment as in weed eaters, pole saws, chain saws, etc. and will assist the operator in locating manholes, repairing sewer lines, waterlines, raising reconstructing manholes, easement maintenance and general grounds maintenance. Maybe required to repair lines in trenches, repairing sewer mains and other duties as required. Maybe required to work during periods of inclement weather, major storms, and other emergencies.
Required to work call duty, after hours and on weekends on a rotational basis. This position functions as the primary manual labor component of each crew assigned to the Easement Maintenance Program within the Sewer Maintenance Division. Crews within this program are tasked with cutting vegetation to maintain access to all 1,009 miles of sanitary sewer easements within the collection system, as well as responding to emergency calls to clear easements for other work programs such as Sewer Maintenance Repair or Flushing.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Daily vehicle and equipment inspections
• Manual cutting of vegetation on easements
• Operation of wide range of gas-powered small equipment
• Maintenance of gas-powered small equipment
• Assist with truck inventory
• Assist Maintenance Specialist with all other work-related tasks
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and two years of maintenance experience related to assignment
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation
Licensing/Certifications
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 45 days of hire.

Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); and frequent exposure to intense noise.
