Editor in Chief, Stanford Social Innovation Review (SSIR)

If you’re an experienced Editor with an interest in social impact and looking for an innovative, entrepreneurial and collaborative environment that is backed by the integrity and credibility of one of the world’s foremost institutions, we invite you to apply to become the next Editor-in-Chief of the Stanford Social Innovation Review.

Stanford Social Innovation Review (SSIR) is an award-winning media property that covers cross-sector solutions to global problems. SSIR is written by and for social change leaders from around the world and from all sectors of society-nonprofits, foundations, business, academia, government, and engaged citizens. SSIR’s mission is to advance, educate, and inspire the field of social innovation by seeking out, cultivating, and disseminating the best in research- and practice-based knowledge. With print and online articles, webinars, conferences, podcasts, six foreign-language editions, and more, SSIR bridges research, theory, and practice on a wide range of topics.

SSIR is at a transitional time as we celebrate our 20th anniversary this year, and we are on a mission to grow! The world has changed in the 20 years since our founding, and we believe there are new audiences for our coverage that thirst for knowledge and dialogue about solutions to critical global issues. We also know that today’s media consumer has heightened expectations for content and presentation in a landscape with so many options. As our new Editor-in-Chief, you have the opportunity to shape an aspirational new vision and strategic direction for our efforts. The EIC leads a current team of 6 editors and a part-time designer, and will be responsible for determining the overall look and feel of the publication (print and web). In partnership with the Publisher, the EIC also has responsibility for the publication’s operations, budget, and policies.

We seek an individual with the creative vision, editorial experience, and the leadership and interpersonal skills to lead the publication into its third decade. You must have in depth editorial expertise, ideally in an environment of high intellectual standards. You are expert in both digital and print publishing, and have digital-forward skills and an understanding of how to grow a largely online audience. This role is a central player in the social innovation community, so a breadth of knowledge about social impact and how it intersects with the public, private and social sectors is highly desired. In collaboration with the Academic Editor and Publisher, the ideal candidate will propose and develop inspiring new ideas to build on SSIR’s current reputation and success while envisioning new strategies that will cement its reputation as the most sought out publication offering thought leadership on some of the most pressing social issues of our times.
