Join our team as an Education and Outreach Coordinator!
Under limited supervision of the department Assistant Director, formulates and directs the department’s public relations, humane education, special events and marketing programs to ensure the fulfillment of the organization’s mission. Responsible for generating strong public awareness of the department through press releases, interaction with the media, marketing messages and programs, public displays and public speaking appearances. Responsible for curriculum development for humane education programming for a variety of venues and targeted audiences. Supervises the work of assistants and volunteers in achieving departmental objectives and goals. Coordinates promotional tours, conferences, and other associated activities. Responsible for scheduling, planning, coordinating and carrying out all special events. Prepares annual education budget and monitors expenditures.
Essential Job Functions
- Assists the Division Manager in the development of policies and procedures, reports, personnel directives and the administration of policies and procedures as they relate to area of responsibility.
- Exercises good customer service techniques such as listening, effective communications and problem solving.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of the humane education curriculum, programs and policies to respond to specific animal welfare challengers and/or to promote responsible pet ownership and the humane treatment of animals. I
- Interacts and communicates with various individuals and groups in the performance of daily activities.
- Meets with various civic and business groups as well as the general public to discuss and secure information relating to the Animal Services.
- Coordinates promotional tours.
- Works closely with the County’s Media Relations and Communications Department to develop public relations and marketing programs to ensure the agency’s mission.
- Assists with the planning and coordination of special events.
- Writes, edits and designs press releases.
- Partners with other internal teams in the development, implementation and evaluation of business plans, program goals and objectives.
- Maintains Pasco County Animal Services various social media platforms including response to citizens and all content creation.
- Ensures position related materials conform to ADA compliance.
- Manages all media for Animal Services related content including, videography and photography and support to departmental teams.
- Actively engages volunteers to support life-saving and community programs.
- Performs other department related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to learn quickly and retain information concerning Animal Services programs and services.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with the public and community partners.
- Ability to speak publicly and effectively present information in one-on-one, small and large group situations to customers, media, volunteers, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to prepare news releases, develop a marketing plan, and schedule and coordinate agency events.
- Knowledge of social media and other communication technologies.
- Ability to budget and monitor expenses for the fiscal year.
- Strong computer skills required in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point,Adobe and other software products with the ability to design and produce promotional, educational and medica materials.
- Ability to maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
Minimum Requirements
PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to bend, stretch, stoop, kneel, reach and climb frequently. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree with major course work in education, public relations, journalism, mass communications, advertising, or an acceptable related area.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
