Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Instructing ESOL classes using a variety of active and engaging teaching strategies/learning activities and student assessment methods
- Planning, organizing and preparing classes, including developing lesson plans
- Assessing students’ language, related needs and adapting instruction to fit those needs while attaining learning objectives
- Developing learning materials that support the learning objectives and planned activities
- Assessing which engagement and teaching strategies are effective for this population and contributing to the continued evaluation and improvement of program curriculum and assessment
- Manage the classroom effectively
COMPETENCIES
- Minimum of one-year teaching experience teaching ESOL; previous experience working with older adult community preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written customer service skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Able to multi-task, work independently and be a self-starter.
- Be punctual, reliable, organized and efficient to run an effective class.
- Interest and ability to work with senior citizens and volunteers.
- Commitment to organizations mission, vision and values.
- Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities.
- Have a demonstrated commitment to supporting communities who have experienced systemic oppression and bias (e.g. people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice involved persons, etc.)
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors Degree required
- TESOL Certified preferred
