Work Details:

Part-Time: up to 19 hours a week

Location: West Allis Campus

Under the supervision of the Dean, provides individualized or group related learning support to students who fall in a program under the Learn Pillar. Assists in the Learning process by providing professional services for the specific courses the Educational Assistant is assigned to. Work is generally diversified based on individual needs of the instructor and student. Judgment and analysis are required in making decisions within established procedures. Daily responsibilities are completed independently using established policies and general objectives with occasional supervisory contact for policy clarification or interpretation.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to prepare chemistry/biochemistry laboratory solutions, as requested by instructors.
  • Knowledge of experimental procedures, protocols, preparation, and proper disposal techniques in an educational chemistry laboratory.
  • Basic knowledge of chemistry, chemical processes, and mathematics.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety precautions and procedures in chemistry/biochemistry.
  • General knowledge of instructional procedures in the areas of chemistry/biochemistry.
  • Knowledge of Hazard Communication Standards.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow Global Harmonization Systems.
  • Ability to coordinate work activities with instructors.
  • Skill in operating and maintaining equipment related to a science laboratory.
  • Ability to calibrate and standardize instruments for chemistry/biochemistry labs.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work; ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with instructors, coworkers, and vendors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
  • Ability to order needed supplies while understanding budget constraints.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assumes responsibility for the maintenance of the spaces assigned; establishes and enforces regulations related to the equipment used; manages inventory of supplies and equipment; creates purchase orders for needed equipment and supplies while working with Faculty and Dean to identify needed inventory and supplies
  • Supports specific departments in providing smooth delivery of semester startup packets and instructional materials to improve service and efficiency for students and faculty.
  • Works closely with student services to understand possible learning needs and helps create adaptive materials in conjunction with the instructor.
  • Provides alternative support for specific academic skills, consistent with classroom instruction and in conjunction with Faculty instruction if needed.
  • Encourages learning and study skill behaviors that help students to accomplish their academic goals.
  • Assists with makeup testing and proctoring services for MATC students.
  • Updates inventory and other data; prepares relevant reports.
  • Acts as a liaison between students and faculty.
  • Provides support for specialized software as related to the center’s specialty.
  • Participates in related in-service training, workshops, divisional meetings, and other educational activities as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the division

Qualifications
Required Experience and Education:

  • Associate degree and at least seven (7) years of experience.

OR:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least four (4) years of experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Serve on Chemical Hygiene Plan Committee.
  • Familiarity with the instructional process and use of instructional media.
  • Skilled in operating and maintaining specialized equipment and software.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to understand and support the student-teacher relationship.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, teachers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and Word to create an inventory and other various reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors and contractors.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse educational and socio-economic backgrounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work involves exposure to chemicals. Some of these materials may be hazardous. Appropriate safety precautions must be used at all times.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., carry, and push up to 20 lbs. and ability pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairs and a ladder and maintain balance.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, hear and speak.
  • Sitting/Standing/Walking: 50% of time spent sitting, 25% of time standing, and 25% of time walking.

HEALTH INSURANCE: MATC offers a choice between two medical insurance plans. See below for plan types:

Note: All medical plans include Prescription Drug benefits at no additional costs to employees.

DENTAL INSURANCE: MATC offers a traditional group dental plan through Delta Dental.

Annual maximum per covered person is $2,500; plan covers preventive, routine, restoration, and orthodontics for dependents up to age 19.

GROUP TERM LIFE INSURANCE: MATC offers group life insurance benefits through Symetra Provident Insurance with active assignment and is fully paid for by the College. The amount of insurance is $15,000. The benefit is doubled in the event of accidental death.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS: If you are employed for greater than 12 months and meet the minimum hours requirement for participation in the WRS pension system, you will be notified of your eligibility. The College currently pays the full cost of the employer contribution (6.8%), and the employee pays the full part of the employee contribution of 6.8% of salary. There is a five year vesting period requirement in order to qualify for any employer contributions made on the employee’s behalf.

FLEXIBLE SPENDING PLANS: MATC offers eligible employees the opportunity to participate in both Health Care and Dependent Care flexible spending accounts administered through UMR.

SICK LEAVE BENEFITS: Sick leave hours granted based on hours worked in summary from 8/15 of previous year through 8/14 of current year. The maximum hours accumulation is 640 hours.

VACATION BENEFITS: Vacation hours granted based on hours worked summary from 3/15 of previous year through 3/14 of current year (Not available for Instructors)

PAID HOLIDAYS: MATC offers paid/flex holidays based on position.
