Job Summary
This position will support PSE&G’s sales and revenue analysis and forecasting process. The group primarily supports the long-range business plan, the month-end accounting close including explaining variances compared to plan, and regulatory filings with the NJ BPU. The group works closely with other areas of Utility Finance (Planning/Strategy and Rates/Revenue Requirements), Accounting (Revenue), Customer Operations (Revenue Controls), and Asset Management (Transmission & Distribution Planning).
Job Responsibilities
- Support the long-range plan by utilizing SAS to perform econometric modeling, utilizing historic data and economic variables to calculate sales, demands, and customer counts by customer class for the future ten years. This includes a deep understanding of the forecasting process so that the sales, demands and customer counts by customer class forecasts can be developed independently. Ability to identify any new factors that can impact sales, demands or customers (COVID, new legislations, etc), develop solutions to adress in the forecast, implement the solutions in SAS, and present results to senior management
- Prepare ad hoc analysis and special projects that require an understanding of the sales/demand/customer forecast and/or building new SAS models to address changing business needs
- Prepare responses related to internal/external auditors and regulatory bodies (BPU, PJM, FERC, etc).
- Support the month-end close, including utilizing SAS and Excel to calculate unbilled sales and the weather impacts on sales, and perform analysis actuals compared to forecast sales; communicate results of calculations and results to management and stakeholders. Ability to identify any new factors that can impact th existing accruals or close process, develop solutions to adress iany issues, implement the solutions in SAS if necessary, and present results to senior management
Job Specific Qualifications
- Seven to ten years of experience
- Bachelor or Masters Degree in Economics, Finance, or a related field (or ten years of experience)
Other Qualifications:
- 5 years of relevant experience in econometric modeling
- 4 years of experience coding in SAS, Python, Java, C, R or a similar language
- 5 years experience developing an electric or gas utility sales forecast
- Strong knowledge of undergraduate-level Economics theory and practice.
- Knowledge of statistics up to and including linear regression analysis
- Ability to develop presentations summarizing results
- Desire to be challenged, expand professional knowledge and take on more responsibility over time.
- Good planning and organizing skills.
- Strong analytical, business and communication skills.
- Creative problem solving skills.
- Ability to interact with all levels of management
