GENERAL SUMMARY

We are seeking two (2) Teen Program Leader Assistants

General Purpose
This position supports the Youth and Teen Development Program with focus on working with Middle School and Tween aged youth. In this position you will serve as a positive role model for youth by helping to plan, lead and participate in activities that reach and respond to the changing needs of youth in our community. Below is an example of the schedule. Expanded hours are available in the summer. Hours may be flexible based on applicant’s availability.

Maximum of 20 hours per week
Scheduled hours may include the following:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 2:00pm – 5:00 PM, Wednesday 1:00pm – 5:00 PM, Saturday 5:00-10:30
  • Summer Hours Vary.

Scope of Work
Provide leadership and assist in sports, music, arts and environmental programs for city sponsored Middle School and Tween program events.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Essential Functions

  1. Provide guidance, mentorship and support for youth at Middle School and Tween after-school and late night programs. Assist in developing and promoting teen-related programs.
  2. Set up, take down and clean up program facilities
  3. Assist in facilitating the activities and ideas generated by the citywide teen population.
  4. Refer teens to appropriate health and human service agencies as needed.
  5. Provide information and support to help youth access programs and services in their community.
  6. Serve as a positive role model for youth.
  7. Participate enthusiastically in all program activities and events.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to interact with diverse populations of all ages in a friendly and supportive manner.
Ability to relate to interests and concerns of teen population.
Ability to relate to individual teens, as well as those who show a broad range of personal styles.

Commitment to excellent customer service.
Ability to work afternoons and weekend evenings.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Six-month experience working or volunteering with youth or in one of the areas of recreation: sports, visual or performing arts, working with people with disabilities, or equivalent.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification or ability to acquire within the first 3 months is required.

Employment is contingent upon successfully passing State/Federal pre-employment background checks
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Environmental Conditions
Community center/indoor and outdoor recreational facility environment; may travel from site to site; exposure to computer screen; noisy environments; inclement weather conditions. Schedule may vary, including evenings and weekends.

Physical Conditions
Essential and marginal functions may require walking, standing and playing sports.

All positions, including Extra Help, participate in a 401(a) Social Security Replacement Program.
Extra Help employees accrue one hour of sick leave for every forty hours worked.
Extra Help positions are allowed to work up to 1040 hours per year.
