Responsibilities
Sargent & Lundy’s Government Services Division provides cutting-edge engineering design and consulting support to the management and operating contractors for US Department of Energy (DOE) sites and national laboratories. Specifically, we support the DOE Environmental Management Directorate as well as the National Nuclear Security Administration laboratories and sites. What does this mean? You can be a part of multi-discipline design teams supporting projects cleaning up the environmental damage associated with the legacy nuclear weapons production complex and/or preserving our country’s nuclear deterrent. Sargent & Lundy’s personnel design facilities, systems, and equipment that treat, store, and dispose of nuclear waste as well as systems that safely handle and process nuclear material. This mission-critical work is meaningful and challenging – work you can be proud of.
We have opportunities for engineering designers and drafting professionals with experience in 2D or 3D electrical design for Industrial facility power, control system panel layouts, and more. As a member of a multi-disciplined project team, this position will offer you the opportunity to utilize your academic background and technical experience to perform the following:
- Work on project teams with other electrical designers involved in system design/retrofitting of power and controls systems
- Prepare design media such as drawings, models, and datasheets for procurement
- Travel to client and vendor sites for walkdowns, design reviews, and construction coordination of designs
- Develop your career via Sargent & Lundy’s presence in multiple industries
- Increase your knowledge and skills in design through mentoring and formal and on-the-job training
Qualifications
Essential skills and experience:
- An Associate’s Degree in drafting, or a high school diploma and 1 or more years of drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience related to electrical systems
- Experience in the design of electrical/controls engineering systems in a project team environment with a focus on integrated, detailed system design for new plants, or modifications or replacements for existing plants; Experience includes the selection of equipment, materials, and power/control philosophy
- Experience with serving as firm/client liaison in a support or lead design specialist role
- Experience in preparation and review of design drawings
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented approach to work
Valued but not required skills and experience:
- Power system experience including low-voltage distribution systems and 480V and below facility design including transformers, generators, and motors
- I&C experience including Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) based control systems, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), communication systems, and equipment selection
- BIM modeling using Autodesk products (Revit) is highly desired
- Experience with DOE site software and drawings
Salary Range
$57,000-65,000
