Position: Electrical Engineering Team Manager
Experience: Minimum 5 years in Electrical Engineering.
Minimum Education: BS or equivalent in Engineering, Science or related field.
Compensation Range: $120k – $160k depending upon experience and education.
The Electrical Engineering (EE) Team at nLIGHT DEFENSE Systems, Inc. develops and integrates a large range of devices to enable high-speed control of laser and electro-optical components for high energy laser weapon systems. Our EE Team addresses challenging DoD requirements including high power battery and high-power AC-DC conversion solutions, high efficiency and high-power DC-DC power conversion, complex multi-function MIL-STD cabling solutions, high-speed data fiber MIL-STD cabling solutions, PCB design/development/test, challenging trouble-shooting, and tight packaging challenges. The EE Team members are dynamic problem solvers that typically have to work around numerous optical and mechanical constraints, making the job particularly challenging and interesting. We are seeking an EE Team Manager with a domain expertise particularly in DoD MIL-STD cabling and power requirements, experience in personnel development and training, and a passion for delivery of cutting-edge High Energy Laser (HEL) weapon systems as part of a dynamic and hard-working team.

Job Description: Team Manager and Direct Supervisor for the Electrical Engineering Team. Mentorship for Team Members. Support Team Members by performing design reviews, assisting with troubleshooting and problem solving, and providing engineering expertise for programs while providing part-time, individual technical contribution. Work with Technical Program Managers and Integrated Product Team Leads on Agile Sprint Planning & Execution. Support tasking and workload management for team members. Annual Review Responsibility. Responsible for defining, documenting, and teaching standards within a discipline. Defines required tools across programs and learns tools along with team members. Ensures cross-program consistency across the company. Reports to Director of Engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with management and the design, integration, test, and safety engineering teams to achieve appropriate documentation.
- Responsible for development of Interface Control Documents (ICDs) by combining inputs from multiple engineering disciplines.
- Responsible for development and integration of artifacts for formal DoD acquisition design reviews (CoDR, SRR, PDR, IBR, etc.).
- Provide program management support to manage and track program execution in relation to technical objectives and customer metrics.
- Internal and external customer team presentations.

- BS or equivalent in Engineering, Science or related field and minimum of 5 years in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education, skills and experience.
- Minimum 1 year experience as a supervisor and manager in electrical engineering.
- Effectively manage schedule and priorities with minimal daily direction to meet mid to long-term schedule objectives.
- Experience with MIL-Spec connectors (D38999, MIL-STL-5015, etc.) and IPC and/or MIL-STD cable design and assembly practices.
- Experience with EMI/RFI mitigation practices for cables and electrical enclosures.
- Hands-on design and development experience in Solidworks Electrical toolset.
- Grounding system design and test.
- Experience in task management and development processes using tools such as gitlab and/or Jira.
- Vendor management experience.
- Familiarity with conductive electronics cooling techniques.
- Strong written communication skills.
Additional Desired Experience / Capability:
- Experience in PCB Design and Test.
- Software experience in C, C++, C#, or Python.
- Compliance testing and certification for international safety standards, EMC, and environmental regulations (UL, CE, IEC, RoHS, etc).
- Experience with Fiber Optic cable design for data transmission (MTP connectors and OM3/OM4 fiber).
