Electrical Estimator

Brown and Caldwell is seeking an Electrical Estimating Professional that is well-organized, outgoing and ready to grow their career in water, water reuse, and wastewater project estimation. The candidate will represent the company as a professional Estimator that will interface with internal and external clients. This position requires well developed experience inclusive of all facets of electrical distribution systems, above ground and below ground conveyance, new service installations, green energy systems, instrumentation and controls, and SCADA systems with their associated integration requirements. Working knowledge of how electrical systems integrate with project disciplines including but not limited to architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical and structural. Preference to candidates with an emphasis in Water/Wastewater projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Estimate man hours, materials, and equipment needed to complete Engineers Opinion of Probable Construction Cost (OPCC) and to competitively bid both traditional and design-build projects.
  • Estimate specifically the electrical, instrumentation, and controls portion of project designs.
  • Provide constructability and value engineering reviews of design documents during all phases of the project. Provide feedback to design team.
  • Develop and lead project estimates, with integrated support of other estimating resources.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships (Internal and external) throughout the project.
  • Estimate change orders and assist with negotiations.
  • Work with electrical subcontractors to ensure their understanding of the designer’s intent.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Associates degree or technical school certificate (BS Engineering or Construction Management preferred).
  • 5 years minimum electrical estimating experience.
  • Proven ability to work independently under remote supervision with project managers, project design teams and other estimators located in multiple regions of the country.
  • Recent experience with ConEst Intellibid electrical estimating software and/or recent Sage Construction and Real Estate 300 estimating software (formerly Timberline Estimating Software) and/or specific electrical estimating software.
  • Understanding of different project delivery methods and estimating based on delivery method.
  • Ability to perform constructability reviews.
  • Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s).
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (primarily Outlook, Word and Excel).
  • Willingness to coordinate the objectives of all stakeholders towards a positive outcome.
  • Experience collaborating virtually in Microsoft Teams environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Excellent organization, prioritization and time management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and excel in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the following: hard bid project estimates, engineers’ opinions of probable cost estimates, change order estimation, and contractor parallel estimates.
  • Ability to estimate other disciplines such as Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, and/or Structural estimating a plus.
  • Knowledge of water and wastewater plant and process engineering practice preferred.
  • Experience with progressive design build and alternative deliver projects a plus.
  • Experience with Con Est Intellibid for electrical estimating highly preferred.
  • Previous construction management background highly preferred.
  • Field electrical experience, managing electrical subcontractors, or Journeyman electrician a plus.
  • Strong ability to understand construction sequencing, electrical task durations, and developing work break down structures (WBS) preferred.

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Location A: $94,000 – $128,000
