The starting pay for this position is $20.00 per hour.
Internally known as a Trades Worker, Senior, Lee County is searching for a highly skilled and experienced individual to working our Facilities Construction and Management department as a Senior Trades Worker. This position is responsible for performing complex installations, repairs, and building maintenance for all Lee County Detention Centers. The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical or plumbing skill set and experience relating to all facets of building maintenance, such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding, and mechanical systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responds to requests received through work orders and completes request in a timely manner.
- The main area of responsibility will be electrical, and when needed, performs routine maintenance such as plumbing repair, cell door, lock repair, electrical work, HVAC, plumbing, mechanical and other building repairs.
- Maintains scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on HVAC and other applicable equipment and systems and documents when next service is due.
- Contacts, schedules and escorts vendors and contractors for necessary building repairs and emergencies that are outside the scope of routine maintenance.
- Works in a safe manner and recognizes unsafe situations.
- Takes appropriate action to ensure safety of themselves and others in building.
- Maintains proper tool inventory for themselves and vendor/contractors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, Licensing
- Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school/GED and two years of building maintenance experience including plumbing, electrical, and/or mechanical (HVAC).
- This position requires ability to pass an NCIC background check, and to undergo fingerprinting to obtain security clearances from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the State’s Attorney Office in addition to the standard Consumer Report based background check that is required for conditional offers of employment.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required.
Supplemental Information
- Prefer knowledge of standard methods and tools of overall related codes, rules and regulations, plus the ability to work from blueprints and sketches and may prepare designs and job estimates.
- Incumbent must have the ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, dig, crawl in tight spaces, reach, stoop, squat, lift 60 pounds, work outside during all seasons, and work in small spaces in extreme temperatures.
- The incumbent is expected to report to work before, during and after an emergency unless excused by management as the duties performed in the position are essential.
- The work days and hours for this position are Monday-Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Incumbent will be required to be on-call when scheduled, work overtime, and work flexible hours and days as required.
