Position: Electro-Mechanical Engineer
Experience: 3+ years of experience.
Minimum Education: BS or AAS plus equivalent experience in Electro-Mechanical and/or Mechanical Design Engineering
Compensation Range: $80k – $150k depending upon education, skills, and experience.

Job Description: The Electro-Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design and development of electro-mechanical and mechanical parts and assemblies for cutting-edge laser and electro-optical systems. Apply DFX and other key design principals to create fabrication-friendly, cost and schedule optimized solutions that meet or exceed the functional design goals. Devise, design and build robust tooling and process equipment suitable for reliable fabrication and integration.
Responsibilities include:
- Design, procurement, and assembly of electro-mechanical and mechanical parts and systems from concept through design finalization and integration.
- Troubleshoot and solve complex problems quickly and efficiently using experience, creativity, and education.
- Oversee and participate in the procurement and assembly of engineering builds.
- Collaborate and participate in design improvements and modifications.
- Mentorship of team members.

Required Experience / Capability:

- Effectively manage schedules and priorities with minimal daily direction to meet schedule objectives.
- Design packaging using assemblies and stand-alone electronic components, printed circuit board assemblies, cable and wire harnessing, conduction and convection cooling components, and plumbing. Nice to have some optical and laser assembly knowledge or experience.
- Experience using SolidWorks Mechanical and PDM Vault software, 3D design and modeling, documentation, and revision control procedures. SolidWorks Electrical experience is a plus.
- Experience in design of sheet-metal, machined parts, injection molding, 3D printing, and other related medium to accomplish design goals.
- Work with various material types including sheet-metal, stainless steel, aluminum, carbon fiber, low-outgassing plastics, 3D printed materials, glass, high-strength steel, etc.
- Ability to use hand calculations to verify design requirements.
- Expertise in fabrication and assembly drawing preparation for manufacturing (ISO and ANSI standards).
- Experience in design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA)
- Experience using hand and power tools, digital multimeters, calipers/micrometers, torque drivers, and similar.
Additional Desired Experience / Capability:
- Use of GitLab, MS Project or similar project management software.
- Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) and modeling of shock, vibration, and thermal effects: static structure, fatigue, random vibration, and modal analysis.
- Exposure to MIL-STD-810 or other environmental reliability design and/or testing.
- Experience with operation of machining, welding, or fabrication equipment.
- Compliance testing and certification for international safety standards, EMI/EMC, and environmental regulations (UL, CE, IEC, RoHS, etc).
- Experience with Fiber Optic cable design for data transmission (MTP connectors and OM3 fiber).
- Experience with 38999 connectors and MIL-STD Cable Design.
