Job Summary

Performs skilled services involving the inspection, trouble shooting, maintenance and repair of all electronic, electrical and mechanical equipment on rail vehicles. Operates diagnostic test equipment solving complex equipment malfunctions and other problems. Applies appropriate rail maintenance principles and techniques to rail car equipment and keeps up-to-date on knowledge. Operates equipment necessary for the repair and maintenance of rail cars; maintains logs and completes reports relating to job functions. Operates trucks, hi-rail vehicles and similar equipment; pulls trailers.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION/TRAINING

  • Mechanics CURRENTLY classified as A-Level Electromechanic
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

  • 3 years’ experience as a skilled mechanic.
  • Knowledge of advanced mechanical, electrical, and electronic theory and principles.
  • Demonstrated competence with computer systems and operation to include basic level skills on Outlook.
  • Knowledge and understanding of maintenance and repair techniques.
  • ASE or trade certifications preferred.
  • Able to safely work on energized equipment up to 750 volts.
  • Able to become HVAC 608 certified.
  • Able to obtain Roadway Worker Protection certification.
  • Pass other rail certifications and trainings as required.
  • Able to certify to operate forklift, crane, and other shop equipment.
  • Able to pass a limited LRV operation exam for the safe operations of train movements in the yard or shop.
  • Successful completion of training program and post-training qualification period. Candidates must successfully complete comprehensive technical exams administered during the Electromechanic training program.
  • Candidates must provide required tools (initial tool list on day of hire with more extensive list to be acquired by the end of the probationary period).
  • Able to communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and customers and maintain good interpersonal relations both orally and over the radio.
  • Able to use hand held radio according to proper protocol.
  • Able to acquire and maintain DOT Medical Card.
  • Have a valid Utah Driver’s License.
  • Be a safe driver with no more than 4 moving violations in the past 3 years.
  • Cannot have more than 1 violation of driving under the influence of alcohol, any drug, or the combined influence of any alcohol or any drug within the last 10 years.
  • Able to perform physical requirements of the job to include walking long distances in a quick manner on uneven surfaces, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs occasionally and over 51 lbs occasionally on uneven surfaces, prolonged periods of standing, crawl and lay on uneven surfaces, able to work in tight and awkward positions, work outside in all weather conditions, able to safely work at heights above 16 feet, and constantly aware of surroundings.

This job requires regular and predictable attendance.
Shift: 9:00 pm – 7:30 am with Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday off*

Pay Rate: $31.57 – $34.36 per hour, plus $1.00 to $1.50 shift differential depending on shift, if applicable. This is a one year wage progression.
