POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):
Position Overview:
The Electronics Control Systems Technician is responsible for the Installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of building control systems.
Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Effectively troubleshoots and resolves automated equipment issues.
- Completes work orders, predictive maintenance, and preventative maintenance tasks in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Fabricates / repairs failed components as needed.
- Programs electronic devices including: VFD’s, PLC’s, and other various controllers.
- Assists with the procurement of parts and materials.
- Coordinates and leads the installations of new equipment, modifications, and enhancements.
- Works with outside contractors/vendors, as needed.
- Calibrates, documents, troubleshoots, and repairs/replaces instrumentation for systems that measure and control level, temperature, pressure, flow, and other process variables.
- Examines and troubleshoots issues with control loop.
- Applies the proper fittings, terminations, and electrical barriers for instruments and devices by utilizing the correct procedures in accordance with local regulatory codes and standards to maintain best safety practices
- Uses appropriate testing equipment to measure and detect electrical and/or process values to ensure proper loop installation and performance.
- Evaluates control system tuning by observing system response to changes in controller parameters, and adjusts tuning parameters to provide proper system response.
- Evaluates industrial network devices by using network diagnostic tools to ensure proper performance.
- Identifies basic networking devices to effectively troubleshoot communication problems by using standard networking commands
- Reviews and coordinates a plan of corrective action for control systems that are causing observed discrepancies.
- Configures, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces existing wireless transmitters to ensure proper communications.
- Troubleshoots and repairs most common types of networks.
- Verifies the condition of the installed control systems through visual observation, comparison with applicable project documentation, and interpretation of redline documentation as needed to provide information for further verification and update by engineering/maintenance to maintain accurate instrumentation records.
- Provides data, reports, and technical support for regulatory agencies, clients, and applicable departments to satisfy regulatory compliance requirements and equipment status updates.
- Identifies all pertinent documentation required for an addition/modification of a control system, and updates if necessary.
- Coordinates with all affected personnel to isolate a process component from an operational system in order to perform testing or maintenance.
- Updates and maintains certified testing equipment, documentation, recommended procedures, and out-of-tolerance reporting to facilitate the operation of instruments and devices necessary for safety and quality assurance.
- Other tasks as required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Five years verifiable experience in calibration, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting automated systems
- CCST Level 1 is preferred, but not required
- Demonstrated knowledge of standards and codes related to the trade – i.e ISA, IEEE, NFPA, NEC, etc
- Must demonstrate understanding of different types of controls on valves and equipment, including DDC controls. (Experience must be within the last 10 years)
- A strong mechanical systems related background with a working operational and maintenance knowledge of the systems identified above is required.
- Ability to read building documents (blueprints) and to read and understand technical documents
- Ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people.
- Basic mathematical competency
- Ability to read, interpret, and edit redline drawings, blueprints, and other schematics
