Elementary Education Lead & Coordinator

Primary functions of the Elementary Education Lead & Coordinator:

Hours: Monday to Friday (8AM to 4:30PM) In-person / Remote

Salary: 60,000 to 70,000 per year (depending on experience)

Requirements:

  • Deep understanding, commitment and passion for authentic Montessori pedagogy
  • Personal and professional integrity as well as compassion for others
  • Montessori Elementary AMI or AMS diploma
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science required; public school certification or M.Ed. desired
  • Five years lead teaching experience in Montessori Elementary classroom
  • Experience with creating, organizing and implementing parent education that builds an understanding of the child’s work in a Montessori Environment and how that can be supported in the home.
  • Experience mentoring and working cooperatively with Montessori staff that inspires professional and personal growth for staff members.
  • Establishes and maintains positive and respectful working relationships
  • Flexibility, organizational skills and a strong work ethic and commitment to the whole school’s success
  • Proven leadership
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities of the Director of Elementary Program & Special Needs Advisor:

  • With Director and other Head Teachers, create overall vision of elementary program
  • Implement Montessori educational curriculum at Bellevue Montessori School.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to ensure alignment to Montessori principles and accountability to student’s learning
  • Have knowledge of Common Core and, along with the Learning Specialist, ensure students are up to standards for grade level and collaborate with teachers in efforts to support students in meeting standards
  • Ensure teacher observations, recordkeeping and lesson plans
  • Plan and implement parent education nights
  • Plan and meet weekly with Lead Teachers
  • Collaborate with the Elementary Coordinator in the editing of written parent communication including: weekly posts, emails and progress reports.
  • Participate in the Elementary Head Teacher reviews
  • Collaborate with Elementary Head Teaching staff in Professional Development opportunities for Head Teachers and support staff.
  • Collaborate with the Educational Team in creating/updating the school Behavior Policy and meeting with staff and parents as necessary when issues arise.
  • Collaborate with Coordinator on planning for the Elementary program including documenting efforts in the Elementary Administrative Notebook.

Duties:

  • Assuming a role on BMS’s Leadership Team and attending weekly Leadership Team meetings as a representative of the level teaching staff.
  • Scheduling and chairing all Level Meetings and facilitating planning, discussion, decision making and implementation as a representative of BMS’s Leadership Team.
  • With the Head Teaching team, lead the review and revision of the Elementary progress reports. Editing of final reports before distribution to parents.
  • Leading a review cycle for the development, documentation and implementation of BMS’s level curriculum and ensuring both horizontal and vertical alignment of classrooms.
  • Organization of a peer-observation program and feedback system for teaching staff.
  • Reflection, review of events and activities, furthering of curriculum development and forward planning for the upcoming academic year.

Responsibilities of the Coordinator of Elementary Program

  • With the Director, create an overall yearly parent and internal calendar for the elementary program including planning events.
  • Update Elementary Administrative Handbook in coordination with Elementary Educational Lead.
  • Create and oversee schedules for the Elementary program.
  • Continue with the Learning Specialist push in two days a week with each LE classroom
  • Specialists in the afternoon only except Friday
  • The Learning Specialist could do other program observations – 1 hour in am a week if requested.
  • Movement Specialist will be working five days. Contract for AM AC.
  • Work with Primary Educational Director to create opportunities for Primary Kindergarten connection to elementary program and other marketing outreach for elementary program
  • Schedule and oversee new student visits and new parent communication
  • Coordinate Drama, Music, Science and Spanish specialists and Boys & Girl’s Club PE
  • Create, plan and supervise Elementary community events (parent potlucks, breakfasts, play, field trips, Upper Elementary overnights)
  • Implement new Elementary Assistant Employee orientation and schedule on-going Montessori training
  • Meet bi-montly with Elementary support and AC staff
  • Supervise after school program (Activity Club)
  • Plan, create, and oversee summer Elementary camp program
  • Oversee and edit weekly Administrative elementary newsletter and edit written parent communication including: weekly posts, emails and progress reports
  • With Social Media Director, post weekly Facebook pictures and information about the Elementary program. Need no photo list. Why are some classrooms not taking photos.
  • Coordinate documentation and other administrative duties for NWAIS and AMS accreditation for Elementary program.
  • Place orders for Elementary Montessori materials and other classroom or program needs.
  • Ensure facility is in compliance with the Washington State Department of Children, Youth and Families Licensing.
  • Communicate site needs to Director and Facilities Coordinator
  • Work together with Program Directors and Coordinators to create community building activities for the entire campus
  • Attend weekly Elementary Head Teacher meetings – Monday meeting at 2:00 pm
  • Attend weekly Administrative meetings
  • Elementary enrollment follow-up to questions and making sure that prospective families are moving through the process.
  • Coordinate Current & Move-up Parent observations. Second and third graders in November. Talk to them ahead of time. Need hand-out with expectations.
