QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate.
  • ServSafe certification
  • Institutional cooking experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively meet and communicate with students, school staff and administration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Production:
    • Responsible for preparation and cooking of menu items.
    • Completing accurate production records.
    • Responsible for ordering.
    • Responsible for checking in orders and communicating order errors to the director.
    • Responsible for documenting and managing inventory
    • Responsible for customer service, presentation of food, and promotion.
    • Responsible for small catering setups in schools (not large catering events or the buying of promotional materials and decorative items).
    • Adheres to National School Lunch and Breakfast Program guidelines.
    • Makes reasonable efforts to monitor and reduce food waste.
  • Safety and Sanitation:
    • Responsible for maintaining town and Food Service Director’s level of appropriate sanitation by overseeing kitchen personnel.
    • Follows safe food handling procedures according to HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) policies.
    • Ensures that time and temperature logs are up-to-date and accurate.
    • Adheres to uniform policy and proper sanitary procedures, including appropriate footwear, proper hair coverage, good personal hygiene and proper hand washing.
    • Maintains a clean and safe work environment for all employees.
    • Ensures that food is labeled and dated appropriately by standards.
    • Complies with and completes food safety documentation requirements.
  • Staffing:
    • Gives positive reinforcement and helps to uphold staff morale.
    • Ensures competency of staff.
    • Supervises other kitchen personnel and coordinates their assignments to ensure economical and timely food production.
    • Coordinate with the foodservice director about staffing concerns, disciplinary action, and training.
  • Other:
    • Responsible for all monies, including cashing out the register, filling out cash sheets, and completing accurate deposits.
    • Interacting with vendors and service personnel.
    • Communicating with the foodservice director and assistant.
    • Responsible for notifying the proper persons for equipment maintenance.
    • In charge of opening and closing the kitchen. Ensure that the kitchen is completely, safely closed and clean at the end of the day.
    • Contributing to the smooth operation of the school cafeteria via customer service, a “team” attitude, and positive interaction with one’s supervisor, coworkers, and clientele.
    • Maintains compliance with federal and state guidelines, including but not limited to continuing education, as directed by the foodservice director.
    • Other duties as assigned by the director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate any shortages of food or equipment repair needs to Cook Supervisor or Manager in a timely manner
  • Adhere to uniform policy and proper sanitary procedures, including appropriate footwear, proper hair coverage, good personal hygiene and proper hand-washing
  • Follow safe food handling procedures according to HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) policies
  • Contribute to the smooth operation of the school cafeteria via customer service, a “team” attitude, and positive interaction with one’s supervisor, coworkers, and clientele
  • Make reasonable efforts to monitor and reduce food waste
  • Maintain compliance with federal and state guidelines, including but not limited to continuing education, as directed by foodservice director

  • in the school setting, ensure the safety of students;
  • multitask and meet multiple demands from several people;
  • lift and reach overhead up to 20 pounds;
  • lift and/or move up to 35 pounds without assistance;
  • lift and/or move up to 50 pounds waist high with assistance;
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
