Summary
This position is designed to provide practical work experience to the incumbent whose interest is working in the emergency management field. Under the supervision of the Emergency Manager, the person in this position will provide support to the Emergency Management Division and the City of Issaquah. This position will perform a variety of technical tasks in the development, implementation, and delivery of emergency management services such as emergency plans, volunteer organization support, exercise development, community outreach and education, and emergency operations activities. Work will take place remotely and in-office.

Essential Functions
- Contribute to emergency and business continuity plans.
- Will assist in Emergency Operations Center response during catastrophic, natural, and man-made disasters.
- Assist with disaster exercises and drills.
- Assist with updating the emergency management alert and notification database.
- Conduct research and analysis for programs or projects.
- Complete basic administrative tasks pertaining to the department’s administrative needs.
- Assist with departmental project or program-specific meetings or events.
- Provide excellent customer service via phone, email, or in-person interactions with both internal and external customers.
Qualifications
- A self-starter who is ready to learn and operate under uncertainty
- Strong reading and writing skills
- Ability to do research
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to use Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Oral communication skills to interact with residents and external partners
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word Excel PowerPoint
- Graphic and Web Design Experience a plus
- Social Media familiarity a plus (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Next Door)
- Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others.
- Operate office equipment and learn office methods, rules, and policies.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Paid Sick Leave is available to employees to care for their own health and safety, and for the health and safety of their family members. All non-exempt employees in part-time, non-regular positions shall accrue paid Sick and Safe Leave at the rate of one (1) hour for forty (40) hours worked, beginning from date of hire.
